  1. Yes, this is just a much more sophisticated version of that, handling things in a cleaner and more optimized way for a linux client. It runs with a bunch of command line options as well. Starting, stopping, opping a player/giving an item, all done through the interface (./script start, ./script start, ./script cmd op player, ./script cmd give player 1 64) etc.
  2. If you're not going to go with the technology route, simple and traditional traps are still always effective: Moats will take care of your non-spiders, and cactus ontop of your home to deal with the rest (i.e. spiders). There's nothing much you can do about endermen and their telephoning shenanigans. For bonus points, try digging drowning traps.
  3. This is a script to help automate running the server, not to install it. Usually to install you just untar the server.
  4. I sincerely hope not. As has been brought up in every other thread about this topic, (there have been many) balance and appropriateness are a chief concern. If server administrators are to nerf this to a gloomy reflection of what this mod can do in single player (a valid concern, as it's chiefly balanced for single, not multi-player), why include it at all ? It creates more problems that it solves and it changes the theme of the game. I honestly would rather not add that bitter flavor to my server and would rather focus on additions that enhance the global player experience; social dynamics give minecraft different flavors when exposed to different modifications.
  5. I actually did it the other way around ! Installed permissions, then Essentials, found out it conflicted with CommandBook, then removed CommandBook. Good luck with your trials, please do report if you can get it working and how you decide to set it up so we can keep a list for other administrators.
  6. Wait what ... Can someone translate what it means for something to be "not add in the laungher" ? This might not be an ETA request so much as a cry for help from the english language. QUICK ! We need a linguist, preferably someone with some exolinguistic background ?
  7. Try deleting those installs, and re-copy files according the install directions. Whether it's just the .zip/.jar files or if it needs additional folders as well. Don't mess with the configuration until you've got them installed and running on default settings. Once you do, start making a few small modifications at a time. The key here is take baby steps to make sure things are working, not throwing it all together and crossing your fingers.
  8. In the plugins/Essentials/config.yml file I included the following lines: kits: Tools: delay: 180 items: - 269 1 - 270 1 - 271 1 - 5 32 EmergencySnacks: delay: 900 items: - 357 3 DailyDiamond: delay: 86400 items: - 264 1 The first one gives some tools and wood, second some cookies and the last is just a nice gift to my players with a 24 hour cooldown. The permissions for these were enabled in my plugins/PermissionsBukkit/config.yml with: essentials.kit: true essentials.kit.*: true First enables use of the /kit command, and the second gives players access to all the available kits (easier than me typing out all three, especially if I want to add more later on).
  9. Only about it's stability. It's a shame it's not going to be added to the next tekkit pack (or at least it wasn't cited in the list of 2.0 links), but I couldn't see a reason not to have this installed on any server unless the mod proved problematic or conflicted with other mods. For that, given the detailed but standardized nature of Tekkit, I wanted to guage the success of other server administrators. Thanks for your input havoc ! It's especially helpful to know the bit about the client not requiring it. I hope it doesn't cause any odd conflicts if one client has it and another does, while performing particular maneuvers, but with one seal of approval, I'll have to give it a test on my side once the IC2 1.7 bukkit port comes out (might as well do my upgrades all in one shot)
  10. Try to get familiar with the NEI interface, it's not just for cheating. If you hover over an item and hit the "R" or "U" key it'll tell you a recipe or what recipes the item is used in, respectively.
  11. Honestly, I'd do away entirely with CommandBook and toss in Essentials. They overlap eachother for the most part but essentials is quite a bit more robust and fine grained in terms of permission sets. I honestly threw away commandbook in the first place due to difficulty in setting up permissions, especially as it regarded the /help and /kit features. The Server Permission setup page http://forums.technicpack.net/index.php/topic,83.0.html has some sample schemes.
  12. Personal issues aside, I honestly don't see why people are getting their panties in a bind over a tekkit update anyway. Once we get a stable Buildcraft 3.0 SMP build, Red Power PR5 (Frames) and the new world format for Minecraft 1.2, then I can really get excited for a full tekkit upgrade. For now it's really just an industrial craft update with a few minor enhancements here and there, nothing that can't be done piecemeal by clients and servers (telling your players to replace a zip file with an updated one isn't that demanding a chore). A lot of work has been done to the client app, which is great in the interim of mod updates, but from a server administrator and gameplay standpoint, isn't worth the downtime and headaches of testing and updating. I say: Take all the time you need, there's not much to be worked on just yet anyway until the other mods catch up. Additionally, you have an ample supply of forum goers (some more loyal and competent than the rest) who would be willing to bug test. The new client may turn out to be instrumental in setting up beta/unstable builds, especially if it included a robust enough bug reporting feature.
  13. Since it looks like Tekkit 2.0 doesn't include the Smart Moving mod, ( http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/361430-11smp-smart-moving/ ) I wanted to ask other server administrators out there if they have any experiences with it on their Tekkit server installations ? There were discussions of initial success upon installations, but I haven't heard of more thorough testing and/or long term testing. If you've got the bukkit port of this mod installed, or tried it in the recent past (1.1.4+), can you share your experience? How it worked out for you, if there was any buggyness or crashes and any configuration tweaks you found useful over the defaults ?
