Flying Mod that works with Tekket - FOUND AT LAST!!

HELLO EVERYBODY!!

After much fruitless searching for a mod which would let us fly in Tekkit SMP, I started experimenting with known good mods for regular minecraft and I FOUND A SOLUTION which does not involve a jetpack with limited fuel!

The CJB Mod pack if just installed normally does not work, and causes minecraft to crash with a grey screen listing the plugins; however, the CJB mod doesn't modify files that Tekkit needs persay, it's just conflicting with one of the mods that come with Tekkit. It will work, it just needs further configuration. I got it to work, and here's how I did it:

First, you need to install Player API http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/738498-125api-player-api/ for whatever Tekkit release you're using; for instance, if you're using the v3 dev build, (minecraft 1.2.5), use the most recent Player API, but if you're using the recommended Tekkit release, (minecraft 1.1), you need to use the Player API 1.1 release.

Once you have Player API installed, it's time to install CJB. Again, use the most recent CJB release if you're using the dev release of Tekkit, or the CJB 1.1 release if you're using the recommended release of Tekkit. (Just do a google search for CJB 1.2.5 or CJB 1.1 to find the proper download) The install proceeds like normal, but then once you've installed, before you play the client you need to delete two of the mod files as they conflict with another mod that comes with Tekkit.

The two mod files you need to delete from the ./tekkit/mods folder are:

- CJB_ITEMS.zip
- CJB_ITEMSPAWNER.zip

Also, don't bother installing the x-ray plugin in minecraft.jar, it's broken; I haven't figured out a way around this one yet;

Why would you need this? Ninety-five percent of severs ban flying any way.

That's easy; I run my own server for me and my friends, and none of us ever really play on the public servers due mostly to the sheer mass of immature players we find there. We all got burnt out really quickly with the greifing, crowding, immature banter, drama, and many other things all associated with a public server that can be found by every ten-year-old with an internet connection and a minecraft license without regards to their maturity level and respect for others...

I figure that if we got fed up enough with all of that as quickly as we did, there's probably many, many others out there like us who have taken the same path to get away from it. Running our own server has enabled us to try a lot of interesting server mods (most of which we'd never gotten to try, like flying for instance) and best of all, we no longer have to worry about any of that negative crud we'd encountered on public servers.

As if that alone weren't enough, it wasn't until we started running our own server and playing with mods that we found Tekkit and the Technic Pack. We fell in love with it from the start, and have even considered taking an active role on the Industrial Wiki as a result.

So there ya have it, in a nutshell!

why not just make a swiftwolfs rendering gale? seems like your going through a lot of trouble for nothing.

A bit of advice - read the rules and don't include signatures.
for example:

"-XXXWIFLAREX1337XBR0X420X360NOSCOPEXXX"

or even:

"- Wiflare"

We know who you are, you have a username. You don't need to sign your posts; it serves no purpose and is a waste of valuable time for everyone involved.

A lot of zombes mods work with tekkit, including a couple x-ray types. I'm not gonna help you install it because personally I dislike it. However my wife uses it and enjoys it so... meh if you can get it working too by all means do so.

Why does this forum even support hacking in the first place? Its a huge bother for the rest of the minecraft community.

Oh and do not try to bullshit us with "I'm only going to use it on my own server" If it was your server then you wouldn't need a fly hack or xray mod. You could just go creative and make all the materials you want.


I'd be pretty disappointed if Technic supported minecraft hacks and let their forum serve as some safe harbour for cheaters to operate from. That would pretty much nullify their net contribution to the minecraft community.

It's not necessarily hacking. My wife and I play on our own private server with occasionally a couple friends. She is using zombes mods because it makes the game more fun for her. She can see what squares mobs can spawn on so she can spread torches ideally, she can see vanilla ores through the ground in a 4 block radius (configurable) and she can make the walls around her transparent so she can see caves around. It makes the game more fun for her, and it doesn't ruin it for me. Obv on a large server this would give you an unfair advantage, but minecraft, tekkit especially is so random and unbalanced anyway. I mean aside from the many client-side cheats that anybody could be running undetected, there is the fact that anyone who started early has an advantage in the tech tree and access to mats, if the server is running EE, anyone who fully utilizes it has a huge advantage, people with ic2 setups have an advantage over those that do not, etc. Not to mention ops being able to give themselves and their friends anything they want.

While I agree that using "cheat" type client-side mods shouldn't exactly be encouraged on larger servers, it's not like its some huge epidemic plaguing multiplayer when there are so many other balance issues to factor in. Also, you cannot automatically assume anyone who wants them is going to use them to gain an unfair advantage on a larger server.

I will explain the problem with this at the end of this post instead of typing it twice.

As I attempted to make clear in my post above, my friends and I have at this point completely shunned public servers due jerkwads doing the stupid stuff you're attempting to accuse me of wanting to do. We run our own server, and that's the only multiplayer environment we play in.

Why don't we simply switch to creative mode and make all the materials we want? While we like to do things like being able to see through stuff and fly, and in the tekkit environment build things that aren't in the vanilla game, we like to play the game, too. Yes it's a modified environment from the original, but we don't choose to use every single cheat/hack/mod/whatever out there, because if you can do everything without effort, what's the point?

You are welcome to your opinion, and I'm sure that there are others that share it implicitly. It would be worth noting, however, that you are on a forum for discussing all aspects of Tekkit/Technic Pack(which is a modded environment containing both client and server mods and hacks) and Tekkit/Technic by that very nature, at the heart of the matter, is the epitome of everything you're arguing against. 'Nuff said.

You might be playing the wrong damn pack.

If you want to fly use a jetpack then or that ring. I don't care what excuse you make. Pimping out hacks it not worth it just to cater to your imaginary scenario of admins who need to hack on their own server.

Really?It was the flying that made you blow a gasket? I assumed it was the x-ray since that is a little more sinister on large servers, but flying? Really? There are multiple items from several different mods that allow you to fly, some of which can be gotten very quickly and easily and have very little to no upkeep. Who gives a shit if someone uses a seperate mod to fly, ESPECIALLY if it is on his personal server. Why does it hurt you for someone else to fly around?

Its both the xray and flying and I already mentioned those alternatives to posting flyhacks.

Because he's not just using it on his personal server. He comes here and pimps out the hacks so other people can get them and use them on whatever server they like without the server owners permission.

The fact that cheating is a lot harder on tekkit servers is great for us who run servers and want to keep them free from cheaters. I always supported Technic pack against all the people who hated it but this pro-hack stance greatly undermines technics benefit to the minecraft community.

Especially when server admins like me work our asses off to keep cheaters away from our servers so everyone gets a fair and balanced environment to play the game in and then the fucking technic team themselves host a safe heaven for people to figured out and post ways to cheat on the server anyway. Its like Technic is shaking my hand and then shooting me in the foot at the same time.

So basically you're trying to tell people what mods are okay and what is cheating. Thats cool for you, on your server. Good luck with that. Keep your better-then-thou attitude off the forums though or expect to be flamed. Oh, and its probably not a good idea to piss off the moderators.

Make sure you stick the landing on that conclusion jump. The East German judge is especially tough.

All of Naturam's views/prejudices and assumptions aside, I really hope this info helped those of you who are in a position similar to mine. I look forward to being able to contribute to the community further in the future! I've really enjoyed Tekkit so far (and my wife as well apparently, as she hasn't logged off of my server since I got the mods working except to eat, sleep, use the shower, etc.)

To DHBM and MrOxiMoron: After reading more info about both the Rendering Gale and the Hurricane Boots, they do sound like cool items to use. I may give them a try out soon, so you have my thanks!

To DragnHntr: I remember trying to install Zombe's mod pack when we were still on our first Bukkit server, and became thoroughly frustrated with it; that was, however, quite some time ago, and before quite a bit of modding experience, to boot. I'm game to try it again, and if I can get it to work I shall post any help I can give with that on here too!
