Bug Update Failed! (Technic SSP)

Title: Update Failed! (Technic SSP)

Description of Problem:
I could not initially could not start the .exe file, so I replaced the .jar file in Appdata and ran it. Then I got the launcher and entered my details, and now when I click login, the progress bar stops at minecraft.jar and reattempts a couple times, but continues to fail until it gives the error window "Update Failed!" and closes the launcher. I have attempted many times but not working.
I have tried to make this in depth as possible, if you need more information, please tell me what to give and I will try to do so (I am new to the technic pack and the forums)

Same problem here. I have been having a lot of problems with the launcher. Normal MC launcher connects with the Mojang servers fine, the launcher keeps failing. On the of chance that it does work it won't update.

I got that problem here, so damn anoyed. so some one help out cheers!

Try making sure you're using Java 7, its the primary problem I've had with the launcher.

I'm having the same problem, stops downloading.

Fixed it! I went to http://www.java.com/en/download/chrome.jsp?locale=en and downloaded the latest java version (I'm running windows 64-bit)
