You can suck all the taint out of the aura too and probably use it with some vis to make stuff in the dark infuser, or simply destroy the sucked up taint with the purifier.
MCEdit it out of existance. It might come back, though, depending on your local taint levels. Oh, and the really hard (read: nearly impossible) way: manually dig it out without a shovel of renewal. I'd recommend more than one person, but Thaumcraft 2 is SP only right now.

That will result in newly spawning taint blocks. The important part is to lower the atmospheric taint below 3750. If the vis aura is also above 1500, the taint blocks will revert to their former state (with a few exceptions, those exceptions just vanish, IIRC).
Reducing the taint levels is actually harder than reducing the taint charge. Reducing the taint charge is easy if you have Silverwood Trees in the chunk. You can also just use Totems of Dawn all over to prevent the ground from tainting, although it'll probably still taint the underground of the chunk. Probably the most effective, if rather slow method of reducing taint levels is a vis condenser upgraded with Concentrated Evil with tainted crystals in it, pumping the taint into thaumium reinforced tanks which are hooked up to purifiers which are hooked up to pumps so they'll slowly reduce the taint levels of that chunk. The tainted ground itself will still stay unless you up the aura with some Silverwood/Totems of Dawn.
Taint charge is, I believe, the percentage chance that the taint level will increase in the current chunk. It's negated by a high aura charge, which is fairly constantly increased by Silverwood/Totems, whereas there are few permanent sources of Taint charge.
It looks like a lot of things can increase taint charge: burn things in a crucible, mine crystals, destroying a tank. It seems destroying the monolith parts in creative can rise the taint like crazy, can someone investigate on that?
One condenser with concentrated evil + stabilized singularity burning tainted crystals. Directly connect to it a line of 3 purifiers with a bellows after the third one. Quick to setup and destroys the taint as fast as the condenser collects it. Speed of collection (and taint removal per crystal) changes with the moon phase. Full moon = highest speed and will collect ~300+ taint per crystal, if i'm not mistaken. The tainted ground itself will remove itself once the taint level drops below 3750 (and at the same time the vis level is at least 1500). This reverting of the tainted ground may take a few minutes until full clear. The condenser has a certain warmup time, until it works at full speed. If speed is more important than efficiency, switch the stabilized singularity to a quicksilver core.
The process milcondoin described above seems to be the most efficient one to me, however, you need to provide 15 Silverwood Logs and 12 Gold Ingots for the purifiers alone. Personally, I would prefer to use the silverwood logs to create totems of dawn instead, and place them into the tainted areas. Another method would be to place a couple of Taint-destroying seals in the tainted chunk (I usually use three or four of the Taint-Magic-Magic one) and have the vis and taint levels cancel each other out. Throw in some bottles of concentrated vis if the atmospheric vis levels aren't high enough.
I usually don't mess with Thaumcraft stuff, but when I do, I research the crap out of everything before I even make a crucible.
Any TC construct that lowers the taint very very quickly. It could be 40 condensers with tainted crystals all pulling into a huge field of purifiers, or it could be a 8X8X40 block of totems of dawn. As long as taint goes down real fast, its a taint nuker. Refer to the google docs link some posts up for lots of examples.
I'll just suck all the taint out of the aura until it's below 100. And I've set the maximum vis/taint levels to 30 000, so <100 / 30 000 is pretty much very little taint.
IIRC taint does not start corrupting blocks themselves until it is at like 66% of max, maybe 50%? So if you are under 1% taint you should be 100% safe.
ive found quarantine VERY useful for out of control taint, but if it spreads underground, use the philosopher's stone to turn a cavern wall into cobble
Quarantine only works if you dealing with just a block infection. If the taint level itself it high enough it bleeds across onto nearby chunks and can start spontaneous infections in them as well.
Well then, it seems that I have to incorporate braziers of souls into my taint nuker to suck taint from nearby chunks to the chunk with the taint condensers. Some of the sucked up taint can be used to make soul fragments .
