Speaking of pokemon go, my old neighborhood (as defined by the rocky mountain standard "within a one hour drive") is in the news due to a 19 year old playing it found a dead body.

I actually heard of this from the other forums, but yeah... it's bound to happen.

That being said; one of the forumites reported that the casino that he works in is apparently considered by PGo as a Gym. See, I like Pokemon, but this is the limit that I go.

Yeah, gyms and centers have been placed in a lot of shady places, unfortunately. I wonder what the process for choosing places is.

Oh btw, does this seem like a good build to you guys?

IIRC, Pokemon Go has imported a *lot* of data the other Nitanic project, Ingress. I'm not sure how close to the center/gym/whatnot you have to be in Go, but Ingress gave you a good 50-70 feet or so of range to be able to interact with the in-game terrain/objects.

The build seems fine, no glaring flaws I see, (Other than the lack of an HDD for storage, but I assume you have one already.)

It might be worth it to wait until the 1080 doesn't cost an arm and a leg more than it should/get an AIB model. You could put that money into moving from an i5-6600k to an i7-6700. That's totally up to how much patience you have though.

What resolution are you planning on driving with the 1080? 1080p? :P

Judging by the parts you have money burning a hole in your pocket! ;)

If you have that much to burn, upgrade to an i7 XXXXK so you get the hyper threading, and a bigger SSD. I went with 128 and wish I had gone bigger. Also consider doing a custom water cooling loop for bonus points in looks!

If you want somthing more price to performance, down scale to a non-K processer (seriously, OCing does next to nothing for games anyways), drop the AIO cooler and go with an aftermarket air-cooler. Literally anything is better than stock. If you're dead set on the 1080 (I dont blame you) then great, otherwise a 1070 is going to be more than enough for the foreseeable future in terms of even the most demanding VR applications. Hell, a 1060 (when it comes) will likely be enough for a few years down the line.

Also look into people who are dropping used 900 series cards in your local area. If you can get a good deal on a 980 or even 980ti, that should be more than enough to power AAA games for the next few years.

I liked Ingress, as it wasn't too bad in terms of "points of interest" as node locations. I actually had one of the lakes and a graveyard near me as two such. Too bad it does a number on the battery--I may just go back to being one of the Renagades when I get a new phone.

I'd suggest a second, standard magnetic disk drive at 1T and bump down the GFX card to at most a 900Ti; you can even get away with a 560Ti if you really wanted to.

No, I'm just shit at budgeting and somehow came ahead this year. Can't have that now, can we?

That's actually a really good point.
Though now that I've seen that I might be able to afford the "best" it's kinda hard to let go of that mad dream :P

*high five*

Pretty much the same here.
Sure, I could go for a 1070, instead of the 1080. Hell, I could even wait for the 1060, which will be coming out. I would even be satisfied with a 980ti, if it came to that.

But GTX 1080. It's there. I have the money... must have it!

IIRC, Pokemon Go is even worse in that regard as hardware-wise it uses everything Ingress does plus your camera/ALL the sensors/even more GPU for the AR shtick.

So, Pokemon GO just launched in Europe. I wasn't really interested, until I saw that my towns water tower is a gym. I obviously need to be in control of said gym, so here we go min-maxing! (I really have no idea how it works, but apparently casual cannibalism is the way to victory).

Oh, and Turkey had a kind-of-not-really coup and their leader now wants to go on a killing spree whilst blaming the west and being cheered on by Putin. Fun times.

Wikipedia quote of the day, (from the Twitter Wikipedia page, on the topic of the most tweets per second measured.);

"The current record as of August 3, 2013 was set in Japan, with 143,199 tweets per second during a television screening of the movie Castle in the Sky[45] (beating the previous record of 33,388, also set by Japan for the television screening of the same movie).[46]

Aaaaand No Man's Sky turned out to suck. I fully expected this but I'm still disappointed :(

I've heard mixed reviews about it. Apparently the exploration is cool but gets boring quickly, which is basically what I expected from it. That said, I didn't follow it very closely. What was it supposed to be like?

Holyshit reddit, really?

Yesterday I was pleased with myself for breaking 1000 karma after 5 or so months of actual use. Some decent posts, a couple broke the triple digits, and a couple downvoted ones I thought were rather unfair. All in all a nifty milestone.

One comment I made today has garnered 2500 karma in 7 hours. It was a joke comment in an article about the japanese pole vaulter who knocked the bar off with his junk...

Ignoring the speculation in the video, all we got was confirmation TES6 is years away. Which does mesh fine with the MMO. It's not a WoW killer, so there is very little chance it will have large enough subscriber numbers to justify keeping the IP exclusive.

Addressing the speculation.

No where did Todd say a new engine, he said new technology. With bethesda, new technology usually means upgrades to their favorite engine. My personal wishlist would be better vehicles, simulation of of NPCs (simulated needs and procedural schedules, like what morrowind was supposed to have), and a synthetic voice module that hits the other side of the uncanny valley (for voiced characters that don't require recorded sound files).

New Vegas 2 was entirely speculation as well. More likely they have tossed the bone to obsidian to belt something good out to keep interest up while they experiment with Fallout 5 themselves.

Looks like Zen might just be AMD's ticket back to CPU relevancy.

Obviously this is a cherry-picked benchmark, but if they can get within spitting distance of high-end Intel and don't completely futz the pricing, I think they'll have a winner on their hands.

Also, apparently the American DoJ has finally realized commercial prisons are a terrible idea. Finally.

EDIT: Someone should make a cringy teenage version of Winrar and call it WinrawrXD
