Mac - frequent screen mini-freezes/crashes

Spec: 2012 Macbook Pro

OS: 10.8.3

Java: 7

So I'm running the version of the launcher for Mac supplied in the most popular launcher thread, the last solution posted, where I downloaded a zipped version of the launcher, have to keep it in my applications, and terminal launches every time I play tekkit. Just telling you that so you all know where I'm at.

The problem I'm having is when I play Big Dig, after about 5 minutes of playing, things go 'choppy.' What I mean is the screen will just freeze. Sometimes for half a second, other times for up to 5, even 10 seconds. Eventually, the screen will freeze permanently, or i'll get the 'dirt screen' and have the message 'shutting down internal server,' and more times than not when I have this message I have to force quit. Any one know how to solve this problem?

Don't use 5gb of memory, more isn't always better. Cut that down to 1.5GB-2GB and make sure your java is up-to-date.

Goddamn, just realized this was a necro post.
