Transporting items over a long distance

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i'm new to Attack of the B-Team, and I love it. However, I'm not familiar yet with all the mods, and I'm having a hard time finding a solution to a particular problem : how to move (a lot) of objects from (rather) distant points ?

Let me explain : I have two homes. They are separated by 2 to 3 biomes : that's a bit too much to move on a regular basis on foot from one point to each other, but I've dugged a tunel between both places (where I can easily put wires, pipes, whatever).

I have a Project Red powered sorting system in my first home. I've tried to connect my second home to this system, but it looks like Project Red pipes have a distance limitation, so this set-up doesn't work.

Since I need to move a rather important quantity of items from house 1 to house 2, what would you say are my options ? Is there a mod in the pack that can help me achieve this goal ? Or should I renounce having an insane lair on top of a far away mountain ?

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions !

Yeah use Tesseracts, but if you're unable to create those at this point then set up some Waypoints (from the Waypoints mod, it allows you to teleport) or some Enhanced Portals at each place and simply fill up your inventory, backpacks and Strongboxes then go in between. It's a good alternative if Tesseracts aren't an option.

Thanks to everyone !

Barring the cargo rocket hypothesis (VERY mad-science, though !), I understand that tesseract are the best solution (too bad I won't have those niiiiice request pipes accessible from everywhere in the world, but, hey, that's life). In the meantime ('cause those Tesseracts are insanely expansive), waypoints and Enhanced Portals seem rather interesting, I'm going to investigate there. Thanks again !

If you want to get the Items and stay In one place, use the Project Red Transportation chunk of Project Red using the Pipes. Although its expensive using these pipes can be an easy way to get your items from a distance. But there Is a penalty long long long distances aren't good for this. I would prefer to make a load of chests under your base and hook them up with pipes and a request pipe to make sure, along with that purple kind of pipe with chips in them at the chests.

Item Cannons???

I saw generikb doing that.

Yes!  Yes yes!

It's slow, but awesome - set up an item cannon next to a chest, and set the chest to draw everything from the inventories around - then set an item cannon up with a redstone timer :)

You didnt read what the entire post said. It was to cross multiple biomes. Well beyond what the pipes would be reasonable for (and would probably wouldnt work even if they werent limited by distance already)

Item cannons ? Man, that reminds me of Secret of Mana and their travel by canons. Can it fire that far, though ? Hmmm... That'll be worth a try, I'll check it.

In the mean time, I picked the Enhanced Portal solution - it's great (though the "sound upgrade" seems to be broken : the portals are still noisy as ever). But I really hope one day, there will be a "transdimensional" request pipe added to Project Red - if that's technically possible.

Technically possible, it would work the same way tesseracts work in essence and would require some sort of network identification (which proj red already has a card for for extension pipes)

It doesn't have a distance limitation but items in pipes de-spawn after 5 mins like normal items, so they de-spawn.

animallove34as, they do have a distance limitation for the network to communicate with each other, they also are limited in terms of loaded chunks. If you really believe a working long-distance solution using project red pipes is a good idea, you really do like wasting time and resources (and i dont mean just items)

there's no way really to set up a routed request pipe at one base and ask for items at the other but you could send all types of one item to a specific base. If you wanted all your food at base A, you could make it so that there is a routed interface pipe hooked up to a chest with a stock keeper chip close enough to register in base B, then put another routed interface pipe with an extractor chip on the other side of the chest and run it within range to a 3rd chest with a responder chip in it. then extract, respond, extract, responder and so on until you reach base A with chunk loaders along the way. then all food put into your system or a chest at base B would go to base A. but that's excessive and costly, since you need tesseract frames and much more to make a chunk loader..... probably something I would do just for fun XD

Another option is a good sized archimedes ship and a bunch of strong boxes. Strong boxes can be picked up with the crescent wrench and moved with all the items insdie. I simply pick them up and put them on my ship, fly it home, and then place the strong boxes next to pipes with extraction chips installed. A bit slower perhaps then the other options but looks really cool on the server. My ship has a decidedly viking ship look to it and looks really awesome parked just outside my tower.  :)
