Complete Newbie to Servers, how can I Create a Private Server for me and a Friend?

Basically, if anyone can either give me or link me to step-by-step instructions on how to set up a 2-person private Tekkit server, I'd be grateful. The server .zip file I've got installed is v1.2.9e, and I need to set up a server for the new Tekkit pack (the one with Galacticraft).

 

EDIT: Oh, and if it's possible to add the old Equivilant Exchange mod to this pack, please tell me! (I mean the one with collectors and red matter and all that fun stuff)

 

EDIT 2: I'll happily do port forwarding and suchlike, but I will not use Hamachi!

Have you tried following the vanilla server instructions? http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Setting_up_a_server

 

It's virtually identical, only you start w/ the tekkit jar instead of the minecraft_server jar

Oh, thanks! I think I'm done, but how do I actually start it? I assume I launch either the launch.bat or the tekkit.jar file, but which, if either, do I choose?

launch.bat is what youd want, since itd offer the customization of JVM arguments.
