    BOARD RULES AND GUIDELINES

A Note on Thread Necromancy We've been getting quite a lot of reports lately of people "necroing" old, threads, this is not actually against the forums rules. The only time you need to report a necro is if it's particularly low effort (Responding to a thread that's long long dead with nothing but "Me too" or, "help pls" etc) since that actually violates a rule. Understand that it is a faux pas to resurrect a very dead thread without good reason however and mods reserve the right to punish for lack of good sense.

Everyone, it's time to help test the next version of Hexxit, 2.0.1c beta for Minecraft 1.6.4.   The majority of Hexxit mods have been updated from 1.5.2 to 1.6.4, but unfortunately a few have been lost due to lack of 1.6.4 builds.  These include Asgardian Shield, More Bows, and Legend Gear.  If you find updates to these I'd love to know about it.   However, many new mods are joining the pack!  The current beta has added Ars Magica 2, Ancient Warfare, Better Archery, ButterflyMania, Carpenter's Blocks, Dynamic Lights, FinderCompass, LostBooks, Lycanite's Mobs, MagicYarn, Necromancy, Roguelike Dungeons, and RopesPlus, among others.  The 2.0.1 update adds Antique Atlas and Zelda Sword Skills.   The core Hexxit gameplay remains the same; an emphasis on exploration in vibrant worlds of sprawling ruins, incredible landscapes, and dangerous enemies.  The updated mods offer many new and improved mobs/items/worldgen, and the new mods enhance this experience by adding new structures to explore, new hostile mobs to fight, NPC minions and undead servants of various types, vast underground multi-level dungeons, collectible mobs, and some miscellaneous convenience features.   The 2.0.1c release fixes installation issues with Battletowers and Dynamic Lights, and also udpated Dimension Doors to 2.3.4 build 353, which has some spiffy new features like Personal Dimension Doors (everyone who enters gets their own private dimension, great for private factory/storage space on servers) and lockable doors (with keys to share!)  Carpenter's Blocks has been updated to 3.2.6, and Hexxit Gear 1.0 has been re-added!   Please note that compatibility with the 1.5.2 Hexxit build is uncertain; take backups of your existing worlds before upgrading!   By no means is this the FINAL list of included mods, and there will also be a round of mod updates soon, but for now test it out and let me know what you think!  Please report issues with this beta in this thread.   The server is available here.   To play the new version, select the small gear under the Hexxit pack icon, choose "Manually select a build," and select 2.0.0 from the dropdown menu.     The current list of mods for Hexxit v2.0.1b beta:   - Ars Magica 2 v1.2.0.022 - AnimationAPI v1.1.2 mc1.6.4 - ArmorBarv v0.8.2(1.6) - artifice v1.1.3-243 - Ancient Warfare v1.1.046-beta-mc164 - backpack v1.28.37-1.6.x - backtools v2.0.1 - battletowers v1.6.4 - betterdungeons v2.08 - betterstorage v1.6.4-0.8.0.45 - better_archery v1.6.3_for_1.6.4 - bibliocraft v1.5.5 - bspkrscore v5.3 - buffbarv v0.8.3(1.6) - butterflymania v0.9.3.1 - carpentersblocks v3.2.6 - MC 1.6+ - chestTransporter v1.1.7-universal - chococraft v3.0.3 - CodeChickenCore v0.9.0.6 - damageindicators v2.9.2.3 - dimensionaldoors v2.2.3-353 - dynamiclights v1.6.4 - enchantingplus v1.16.5 - extrabiomesxl-universal v3.15.7 - findercompass v1.6.4 - harkenscythe v1.6.4 - ichunutil v2.4.0 - infernalmobs v1.6.4 - InventoryTweaks v1.56-b77 - lostbooks v1.0 - lycanitesmobscomplete v1.5.1c - magicyarn v1.6.4 - mapwriter v2.0.16 - Meteors Mod V2.11.2 - natura_ v2.1.14 - necromancy v1.6.4 - neiplugins v1.1.0.6 - NotEnoughItems v1.6.1.5 - offlawn v1.0-1.6.4 - openeye v0.5-1.6.4 - projectzulucomplete v1.1.7.3 - qcraft v1.1 - reliquary v1.1.2b - roguelikedungeons v1.3.0 - RopePlus v1.6.4 - ruins v1.6.4 - secretroomsmod v4.6.2.324 - soulshards v2.0.15 - tconstruct v1.5.5.6 - TREECAPITATOR vR09 - twilightfores v1.20.5 - waila v1.5.2a - wildcaves v0.4.3.4 - BetterFurnaces v4.0.1 - Antique Atlas v3.1.1 - Zelda Sword Skills v0.7.3 - Hexxit Gear 1.0-164

Website: http://apocgaming.org | Server IP: TM.APOCGAMING.ORG | Discord: https://discord.gg/uctbDQb For more information on our servers, network, status, wiki's, launchers, pack pages, and more checkout our server page here: http://apocgaming.org/servers AGN is a community of gamers for minecraft and other online games founded in 1999 for gaming and setup in 2010 for minecraft servers. We host independently from Zilacon's own privately hosted dedicated servers. (Bungeecord, Vanilla, & Tekkit Classic are on a paid host. All others are hosted by Zilacon) I pride myself in hosting and managing high performance servers with virtually zero down time. All of our servers have deadlock, lag, and crash detection. Automated restart scripts, entity clearing/merging, spawn limits, timing adjustments, etc. To make the server run as smooth as possible. Our servers normally maintain 19-20 TPS no matter what. If you experience any type of lag with a good ping to the network, please contact us so we can look into it. Me and my staff team are available almost 24/7 on our discord server. On APOC we have many gameplay styles for you to choose from, along with over a dozen modpacks and servers to play on. All of our servers (excluding skyblock modpacks) have all of the features below. Server Features: Always Online: Dedicated, optimized, built for performance servers since 2010. Our servers are fully automated with almost zero need for human intervention to remain online and running smooth. Multiworld: We have worlds for PVP and PVE. These worlds are Survival (PVE/GriefPrevention Protection), Factions (PVP/Factions Protection), and Towny (PVP/Towny Protection). PVP worlds allow griefing and raiding by following the rules within the factions and towny plugins for war. Survival is PVE only and uses GriefPrevention for its protections. Custom Economy (APOC-Payday): Our economy is like no other, with one giant plugin (APOC-Payday) this plugin offers rewards for over 30 gameplay activities from killing mobs/players to crafting items. It also rewards you for voting with keys/kits to redeem for items and economy/exp/claimblocks. Our plugin also handles sign shops, player plots, automatic ranking, online/login rewards, and much more. Admin & Player Shops: We provide basic vanilla items in the spawn tower for admin shops. And we leave the modded side for players to buy a plot in spawn, create a shop, and select their items and prices for their shop. We encourage a competitive player market on APOC. Our admin shops will not interfere with selling modded items. Custom /help Commands: We have a custom menu of /help commands that explain everything on apoc. How to use our economy, claim systems, worlds, voting, shops, teleportation and homes, and much more. If these help commands cannot answer your questions, staff are available on the servers or on discord. MCMMO & APOC-RPG: All of our servers come equipped with MCMMO and APOC-RPG which adds skills, bonus drops for actions, custom enchanted item drops from mobs, and randomly placed chests or structures with loot inside in the worlds. Bungeecord: Our custom bungeecord server allows clients of any version to connect to our network & servers. Once connected to the server of your choice, you can communicate with everyone from every server, and see everyone who is online in the tab list from all servers. Looking for Staff: We are seeking active staff members for all servers on apoc. If you are interested in any position please apply on the links below. We are looking for java developers and server staff. Apply for Chat Mod: http://apocgaming.org/cmodapp Apply for Server Mod: http://apocgaming.org/smodapp Apply for Developer: http://apocgaming.org/devapp Voting & Reviewing Rewards: Voting for our network on one of the 36 vote sites listed on our /vote command in game or on our site at http://apocgaming.org/vote will give you 1 Common Key and 1 VoteKey. Common keys are one of 4 types of item reward keys issued on the servers. These keys can be earned by voting, being online, or logging in daily. When redeemed they will give you one item out of a long list of possible rewards. The higher grade the key is the better the rewards. Redeeming keys like Common have a chance to upgrade to Uncommon, and Uncommon to Rare, etc. Vote Keys are issued only for voting for sites, they give 1 EXP Level, $100 Economy, and 10 Claimblocks. We also reward for reviewing our network/servers on vote sites and forums like this (technic). If you enjoy our servers, please write us a review by replying to this topic for $2500 Economy and 3 Rare keys as a reward. If you got any suggestions or ideas for improvement, we are open to change. Minecraft sold to Microsoft.

In notch's defense, I suspect the guy is having the same issue many lotto winners have. The idea of being obscenely rich is so alien to him his brain is incapable of comprehending what the money actually means and has defaulted to something it could handle. Every couple of weeks some lucky schmuck in the US wins $40-300m and is presented a choice, take a lump sum that cuts off somewhere between 30-50% of the jackpot, or get it all as an annuity over 30 years. What they decide is a good indication of how their brain is confusing the situation. Lump sum: Their brain sees a big number and it just keeps going, all the way to infinity. They cannot comprehend ever using it all up so the choice between infinite now and much less than infinite every year is a no brainer. Annuity: It can't be happening, because big numbers like that exist for other people only. So there's no difference between what they currently make and that number with a couple wrongly placed zeros, and they need to maximize it and keep it as tightly guarded as possible because one wasteful decision cans end you right back to the poor house. I'm guessing notch falls into the second group, he just cannot comprehend how much he actually can do with this money and sees it as less than it actually is. I get that idea from a quote they had of him on npr. Apparently the guy took the deal because he doesn't want to be part of the big game biz and plans on using the cash to make a couple more small games. The guy could hire his old team with million dollar salaries and putz around with any game idea they felt like, dedicating as much as any AAA title out there, and still not dent his cash reserves for decades. And he expects it will let him personally make a couple games... Personally I find psychology interesting. It's what keeps me with minecraft, the drama it runs on is just ripe with all flavors of neurosis, complexes, and full on delusions. As for the future, I know KSP could use a good mod installer/manager and minetest looks like it just needs some love for it to completely replace minecraft.

Is Attack of the B-Team Boring???

Oh man this thread! I was like "man the whalebox hasn't gotten anything new in a while, maybe I should reopen this thing." and wow. A site called dudequest, someone talking about their fedora collection, and about a dozen people saying they're not angry while calling others angry. I'm glad we could get to the bottom of that bat thing guys!

In reading over this thread, I have come to the conclusion that FPS Furry does not, in fact, want people to discuss the varying merits of B-team but rather wants a soapy hugbox of people agreeing with him, with the occasional poorly-worded strawman argument or personal attack for the Yes-Men to utterly dismantle. Honestly, there's really nothing wrong with thinking the modpack is boring. You're entitled to your opinions, and it's fine to not enjoy the modpack. Saying Technic as a whole has jumped the shark is a bit strong, and doing literally nothing but complaining about what you don't like in the pack while refusing to offer actually constructive criticism is just silly. Personally, I love the concept behind B-team. A big damn box of awesome toys alongside enough tech-tree automation to scratch that particular itch is a great idea and is something I applaud.

Is Attack of the B-Team Boring???

I am slightly confused OP. Why aren't you yelling at BdoubleO and Generikb ? Attack of the B-Team mods were picked by them. Seems a bit silly to yell at the guys who compiled it for them. Its one of the trickiest parts of third party packs (not sure if Technic calls them that). When you are building a pack based on what a specific person or persons has asked for you can't just pull mods, or change configs however you want. The Technic team from what I understand had input in the pack but they did not design the pack by themselves. They gave the B-Team what they asked for. If thats not to your taste that probably means you have different taste then BdoubleO and GenerikB. It does not however make the Technic pack creators bad pack creators. The fact that they gave the B-team exactly what they asked for and did it with as much stability and lack of bugs as they could says they are good pack creators. If I am in fact incorrect and the Technic team designed this from the ground up by themselves, your dislike of the balance/mod choices still doesn't translate into it being a bad pack or the team being bad pack creators. It just means the pack is not to your taste. Thats why there are so many different packs. A single pack cannot please everyone.

Kitty Jail 2: You Can (not) Escape

Just had a fairly hilarious occurrence in Rome: Total War's Grand Campaign. I'm at war with the Greeks, and they'd approached me to broker for peace. The requested a ceasefire, and demanded I gave back Syracuse which I'd taken from them a few turns earlier. Not wanting to do that, obviously, I made a counter-offer. A ceasefire, but they give me Thermon. I did that knowing they wouldn't go for it, we'll go another few years of war, I utterly trounce them, et cetera. They went for it. Of course, now I have a town that's completely isolated and will likely fall within the year, especially as it's surrounded by quite some troops. But I own Thermon. Moral of this story: Do everything you can with as much arrogance as possible. It pays off. (don't listen to that)

So, just had this rather coherent dream for once as opposed to the usual mishmash of characters, nonsense dialogue, and 80’s CGI Hollywood effects, so I thought I’d share. Plus I can’t sleep any more now anyways. So, here I was, just chilling out, enjoying playing muh video games, (particularly some sort of fusion of EVE Online, Warframe, and Starmade. It actually seemed like a really cool game.), when for no good reason, I became the target of a good-old-fashioned public internet hate-mob. The reason I had become public enemy no. 1 is because apparently some Mexican father had tried to contact me about helping his obese son to exercise and become healthy. I never saw his message, and apparently that translated into some sort of unforgivable sin against humanity. (shrugs) So anyways, I started being attacked randomly inside said game, (my existence in which was also somehow tied to my ability to listen to Spotify???). First rando or two, I handily blew up, leaving naught but fragments of spaceship and angry-yet-defenseless people. After that, it started to get overwhelming. And then the cavalry arrived. ALL of you guys swooped in, saved my butt multiple times, and we, coordinated via Skype, commenced obliterating noobs and skilled-yet-uncoordinated players alike with extreme prejudice. Lazers flew, bombs whiffed, ships were boarded and Warframes bit the floor. A massive horde of random people were bitterly defeated before the awesome might of our ragtag fleet of ships and crew. After clearing a massive buffer zone around the area of space where I usually was, which apparently no new ships could spawn in, we were enjoying a victory party. We had a pool barbecue. (But in SPACE, so cooler I guess.) When SUDDENLY, we were all teleported into the depths of a massive, and very hostile, enemy mothership/planetoid/thing™. Our escape was epic, and, after judicious use of short-range teleportation techniques to drop missile and laser turret locks, we escaped back into open space. (and got to watch the massive ship explode death-star style for some reason, that was cool too.) After that I guess some pop star must have died again or something, because the public stopped seeming to care about me and everyone went on with their lives. The massive void in the space game we cleared out remained as a testament to what had happened. Real world damage to me consisted entirely of two amusingly benign and delicious vanilla cakes being delivered to my doorstep, already paid for. (I guess this was a very amateur internet hate mob???) Overall, 8/10, still a better love story than Twilight, would buy again.

Hey Digeridont420, you seem to have had a bad time However, I do recall almost all of these events you quote, having been there and watched the discussion. I'll try to briefly discuss what actually happened 1. The player was disregarding what the admin was saying, despite said admin having both a job and hobby in the field. after multiple insults from the player, and a high level of disrespect, the player was banned. 2. The player had cheated items. The admin was purely removing the items to stop both an economy and game crash 3. This admin would be Foreen. Nice person she is. At that time, there were several hackers attempting to break the server (from what I could tell). She was going to help the kid afterwards. The bomb threat did not help. And as for playing minecraft, that right there is dedication, not a fault. 4. I at no point remember chests being banned. There may have been things that look like chests, in fact called energy condensers, that were temporarily banned due to exploits. I believe it was fixed later that day. 5.Seeing as you can send a pm to anyone, private messages are treated pretty much the same as global chat. This is a family friendly server. 6. 'According to some people'. People who are probably the same ones that got annoyed at admins for busting their cheat system. 7. Yes, this is called mini-modding, and if you read /rules, you'd know not to try. If it's an admin's job, let the admins do it. They probably were fixing it, then you walked right in and stuffed it up. 8. There is lag. It comes with modpacks. However, due to lag, people spam it. So now admins both have to stop spam, and try to fix lag. Then once they get everyone to be quiet (takes a while), then they can START working on fixing the lag. If anyone is to blame I'd say the people spamming. 9.Nope, nope and nope. Restarts are scheduled every 2 hours, take about a minute, maybe two to start back up, and help with the lag a lot. 10. It's well easy enough to make a quarry, and people will ALWAYS buy diamonds. Plus, with jobs plugin, voting is not the only way to make money. Heck, I'm not even sure what I use money for. And on your 'outro', as it is, you insult admins. And contrary to what you seem to think, you don't get banned for talking, neither are the staff stupid (as you infer, oh look, another insult). Good day, sir.

    Modding News 2

MS announced today that they took a huge write-down on their Nokia puchase. It looks like windows phone is dying so the Win10 version is probably just to keep minecraft alive on whatever microsoft portable devices still exist 5 years from now. Also for really young users, hop-in/hop-out 8-player SMP without a server that's compatible with PE multiplayer is a really great feature. I have a new whitelisted attack of the bteam server. It is the latest version of the modpack and will continue to be updated to the latest version, asap. It will hopefully run 24/7 but due to updating the server, that might not always be possible. IP: 192.99.14.117:25620 (SERVER IS BACK UP) The server will require just the following: IGN: Age: Why you would like to join: My server is for mature players, and is a place for peaceful and fun players. (DONATIONS IS SET UP (do /shop to access) We would encourage players to donate, however its is not required to join, but it would help with the up-keep and security for the future of the server!) Thanks for all those reading, good luck. Hope to see you all on the server!

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in joining together and play on a server together? Just a small group of guys/gals that enjoy playing together would be wonderful! Post here or message me if interested.

    Tinkers Tools/Weapons Combos

I try to find cactus quickly early on as it's useful for a lot of tools - I'll list my preferences in order. Early game: Weapons (damage is important, durability is important, enchantability not important) Blade = Cactus > Flint Crossbar = Bone > Flint > Cactus Rod = Bone > Cactus > Wood Tools (speed important, repair material important, eurability important, enchantability not important) Head = Cactus > Stone Binding = Stone (if not used above for stonebound trait) > Bone > Flint > Cactus Rod = Bone > Cactus > Wood The goal of this stage of the game is to find iron and if possible, blue slime from underneath slime islands (if you can get up on top then that's even better). You'll need sand, clay and gravel for the next step, but you can choose if you want to make that step; The Tool Forge: Earlier access to the excavator, lumber axe and hammer for mining resources quickly, but you lose out on some efficiency by not having the smeltery up first. With B-Teams resources if you're not planning on going to the nether soon or haven't got any access to lava yet then this is a pretty good choice. The Smeltery: This will allow you to switch to making metal tools and increase the output of smelted ores by double. You'll need to do both before moving on, so the only choice is which way around you'd like to do it (if you go smeltery first then you're probably not going to upgrade to second-tier tools until you make metal ones). I find it worth it to start making moss stone at this point to put a moss ball on each of my tools (you need cobblestone and a bucket of water to do this). The mid game has a lot of its options removed (alumite, bronze) by easy access to steel in the B-Team. It's by far the best choice of its tier for most of these things, so unless you feel like it's a bit cheaty you should use it. Cook iron ingots in an ordinary furnace to make steel ingots which you'll melt down in the smeltery. Mid-Game Weapons (damage is important, enchantability is important, durability is important) Blade = Steel > Alumite Crossbar = Paper (if you feel you'll be likely to stay with this tool for a while) > Blue Slime > Steel > Green Slime > Alumite > Bronze > Iron Rod = Blue Slime > Green Slime > Steel > Alumite > Bronze > Iron Enchantment = 1x Moss Ball, Nether Quartz to max if struggling in nether Tools (speed important, enchantability important, durability important, repair material not important) Head = Steel > Alumite > Bronze > Iron (Bronze or Iron are debatable, probably not worth the upgrade effort unless you're never intending to visit the nether in which case put a diamond on it) Binding = Paper (if you feel you'll be likely to stay with this tool for a while) > Blue Slime > Steel > Green Slime > Alumite > Bronze > Iron Rod = Blue Slime > Green Slime > Steel > Alumite > Bronze > Iron Enchantment = 1x Moss Ball, Redstone to max The Mid-game introduces hammers, excavators and lumber axes if you haven't seen them yet. Generally you'll want to make a tool that needs plates with the same material you use for the head unless you're trying to save resources. If you haven't started making moss-balls to auto-repair your tools, now is the time to do that. The goal of this stage is to have the tools you need to mine cobalt and ardite in the nether, and weapons capable of fighting off the nasties you'll find there. The end-game focuses on the nether and two materials you'll make from what you find there, cobalt (for tools) and manyullyn (an alloy of cobalt and ardite for weapons). End-Game Weapons (enchantability is important, damage is important, durability is important) Blade = Manyullyn Crossbar = Paper Rod = Manyullyn > Blue Slime Enchantment = 1x Moss Ball, Nether Quartz to max if struggling in nether, Diamond + Gold block to allow more nether quartz. Tools (speed is important, enchantability is important, durability is important) Head = Cobalt (faster than manyullyn but won't mine manyullyn blocks, not an issue... unless you accidentally place one down) > Manyullyn Binding = Paper Rod = Manyullyn > Blue Slime Enchantment = 1x Moss Ball, Redstone to max, Diamond + Gold block to allow more redstone. There are a few exceptions to this (I like to make a cleaver that does just over 20 damage and add looting for the rest of the enchantments for example) but this covers most things except bows. That should have you sorted for most tools. Bows are a strange one - the bow damage value is irrelevant (it applies to you physically whacking things with the bow rather than using arrows), you only care about its draw speed, arrow speed and durability. Bows Rod = Blue Slime/Green Slime > Wood/Cactus String = Fiery Bowstring > Bowstring Enchantment = 1x Moss Ball, Redstone to max, Diamond + Gold block to allow more redstone (to max draw speed). Metals on bows allow a good arrow speed (on par with slime) but a very slow draw speed (twice as long as slime), even manyullyn isn't worth using for a bow. Arrows (Best Damage) Arrowhead = Manyullyn Rod = Paper Fletching = Feather Fletching Enchantment = Make a full stack of arrows first, then max nether quartz and Diamond + Gold Block to allow more. Arrows (Fast w/no enchantment) Arrowhead = Cactus Rod = Blue Slime/Green Slime Fletching = Feather Fletching Arrows (Cheap but fast - Loader's favorite) Arrowhead = Cactus Rod = Paper Fletching = Feather Fletching > Leaf Fletching (easy to farm the components and so cheap you've got no fear of losing them, very fast arrow makes easier aiming with little drop - still very enchantable for PvP in an emergency and you're familiar with the arrow drop because you probably regularly use them)

For the record, this isn't entirely Apple dickishness (though they're being dicks and you should certainly complain to them or they'll keep thinking it's ok to do things like this), Oracle deserves some of the blame for being dicks too. With that said, the only way you can do it that I can think of is to get some software like Pacifist (this will allow you to install packages manually in MacOS) http://www.charlessoft.com/ Then use it to run 'JDK 7 Update X.pkg' in the 'jdk7-7uX-macosx-x64.dmg' file you download from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

    Donations vs Item Rewards

Donation Plugins: I don't use them and would never play on a server which pretends to accept "Donations" when they are really executing a "cash for goods" economic transaction. Look up donation in any dictionary and the general idea is "an act or instance of presenting something as a gift, grant, or contribution". Donation Rewards: If you want to reward players with some token for donation (i.e. the cosmetic mechanics you mentioned) I would have no problem with that as it keeps everyone on a level playing field. Providing a material advantage (items, abilities, etc.) for pay (real world currency) is NOT a donation. It is a financial transaction. This splits a community into two groups: Those who can't or won't pay for an advantage, and those who can/do/will. Personal Thoughts: (since you asked) Expecting, or even ASKING for that matter, other people to pay for your hobby is pretty lame. If you are hosting a server because you enjoy it or think it's cool, go for it. You can have a lot of fun and provide an interesting play-space for other people as well. However, like any other hobby you can think of, this will cost money. Even if it's home-hosted someone had to buy the hardware and electricity ain't free. If you are into boating, would you walk up to random people in a marina and ask them to help you buy a boat if you promise to let them ride on it? You would get laughed out of the place. If you are hosting a server as a commercial, for-profit endeavor you are also welcome to do that. However, Mojang has expressly stated that the "pay to win" and "non-cosmetic" rewards for cash is something they 100% do not want. If you can stay within those restrictions and make a great server/community, then by all means go for it, but don't pretend that you are accepting "donations". Doing so is dishonest and harms the greater MC community.

It's up to the user who made the pack to contact each dev, Technic will not babysit modpack devs. So no, I highly doubt anyone removed his pack because of permissions. we aren't forced to do anything. Are you lost? This isn't FTB and Watchful11 doesn't "work" here

The Hexplore-it creator, mine_my_own_bizz, temporarily lost access to posting here after switching his contact email because the validation system is down. He asked if I would post this here on his behalf. Hexplore-It 1.7.10 will start testing/building now. Find it here and start tweaking. http://www.technicpack.net/modpack/details/testplore-it.551552[1] Bare in mind this WILL be VERY crashy and VERY buggy! This is just meant as a place to start. The only tweaking done thus far has been to make the pack launch-able/playable. I am looking for and feedback as usual but I am more looking for assistance this time. I will need help with configs, key-bindings, mob-spawning limits, drops loot, etc... I could also use assistance soon with ideas for lore and a questing system. I plan to build custom structures to spawn in the world. My hope is to even include custom NPCs in that as well. There are many mods currently included with duplicate components and many mods that are merely for the building of the pack that won't make into the end result obviously. I will probably use this instead of Solder for the time being for simplicity's sake. Feel free to use the discussion tab to conversate on this. Let the long, hard work begin!!!

I assume you are talking Survival game, on higher-than-peaceful difficulty. You usually start pedestrian, with a shelter and manual mining operations. Then you set up Thermal Expansion power generation with coal or charcoal and a first simple (also Thermal Expansion) processing chain to double your ores, get bonus ores and smelt more efficiently. After that, opinions vary. Some will immediately solve the power question with an early Yellorium Reactor. Others will set up a Minefactory Reloaded farming chain and mass-produce charcoal or biofuel for power - more challenge and complexity down that road, but tastes do differ. Everybody will build (semi-)automated Thermal Expansion factories to process stuff more efficiently, and see about storage space. The best solution is probably Deep Storage Units for mass items like Cobblestone, Sand and the likes, and an assortment of Strongboxes for the other stuff. Most people want to fill this then by using >Buildcraft quarries, and some will add flavour by using the >Equivalent Exchange alchemy options. Once the resources are rolling in, it becomes viable to start your Applied Energistics ME network to vastly expand and simplify your storage. At that point, the energy question should be solved in a way that allows you to run at least one MFR Laser Drill and stop the tedious quarry mining. At some point, you will have enough resources to forego that inferior armor and make Power Armor, which will allow you to run super-fast, fly around and generally be Iron Man. Take care not to catch fire from your new hotness, though. Power in late game usually comes from nuclear plants, be they of the Yellorium variety or the more hardcore Atomic Science stuff. If using Yellorium, don't just upsize the thing, but consider switching to active cooling with the big multi-block Turbines for some awesome-looking addition to your base. If sized right, these will easily power all end-game stuff. Once you achieved all that, maybe look into Galacticraft and go to the Moon, build your space station and plan a Mars mission. That is just one way to do it, with several others at your disposal. Some like to use mining Turtles, or do some magic with Computercraft. Others enjoy the spelunking and will harvest lots of ores manually until rather late in the game. It's a sandbox, so bring your imagination. :-) I had some fun building roads with the MFR "Road" blocks, which allow you to run very fast on their surface. Combined with Power Armor servos increasing your speed, running along those can be hilarious, as you can reach speeds that even exceed a free fall.

    Permgen and LiteLoader

During my time providing support for custom modpacks I have occasionally run across a pack which required PermGen allocation to be higher than the default 128M. I've seen questions about this before so I figured I would make a post about it for folks to gander at, but also so that it would show up when searched for as well. I have also seen posts by folks looking to include LiteLoader in a Technic custom modpack. For 1.7.2+ this is as simple as dropping the LiteLoader jar file into a modpack. For <=1.6.4 it is a bit more involved. The Java arguments which are passed to the client process by the launcher are pulled from the "version.json" file inside the modpack.jar. That file can be edited to provide additional command line parameters such as for PermSize and to include libraries such as LiteLoader. For PermGen space on a server you simply add this to your command line: -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=128mThis can be set to whatever you need so bumping it to 256m is straight forward. In the client, since the Launcher will pull the version.json file out of modpack.jar and overwrite the file in the "bin" folder it is necessary to edit the file in the modpack.jar to persist any changes. Simply add the PermSize changes to the parameters at the top of the file like so: "minecraftArguments": "--username ${auth_player_name} --session ${auth_session} --version ${version_name} --gameDir ${game_directory} --assetsDir ${game_assets} --tweakClass cpw.mods.fml.common.launcher.FMLTweaker",becomes "minecraftArguments": "--username ${auth_player_name} --session ${auth_session} --version ${version_name} --gameDir ${game_directory} --assetsDir ${game_assets} -XX:MaxPermSize=256m --tweakClass cpw.mods.fml.common.launcher.FMLTweaker",In a similar fashion, it is possible to add the LiteLoader initialization like so: "minecraftArguments": "--username ${auth_player_name} --session ${auth_session} --version ${version_name} --gameDir ${game_directory} --assetsDir ${game_assets} --tweakClass com.mumfrey.liteloader.launch.LiteLoaderTweaker --tweakClass cpw.mods.fml.common.launcher.FMLTweaker",note the addition of: --tweakClass com.mumfrey.liteloader.launch.LiteLoaderTweakerAfter the change to the startup parameters, it is necessary to add a library definition to the version.json file as well. Look for the section right at the top that has this line: "libraries": [then add the following directly after that and before the first existing library definition: { "url": "http://dl.liteloader.com/versions/", "name": "com.mumfrey:liteloader:1.6.4" },For those of you who don't want to go editing your own files I have prepared downloads with the changes already in place. These are Solder ready but can easily be used in your standard modpack by unzipping them. Currently, the only adventure mods there are in the Technic Launcher are really Hexxit and Hack Slash Mine. Hack Slash Mine was discontinued and could have been very enjoyable if it wasn't. There are quite a number of enjoyable systems there that should be fleshed out. Hexxit is really just dull, easy, and lacks depth. The more noticable portions of it are the Hexxit Armors, Twilight Forest, and the dungeons around the world. The Hexxit Armor was really quite easy to acquire if you knew where to find it and granted you abilities that make much of the game very easy. The Twilight Forest, although expansive and beautiful, only had a few noticable areas that repeated often. None of the dungeons are particularly interesting and often waste time. It really lost its charm after the first month it released, which was the time I played before it bored me. Why do we have to settle for such a mediocre modpack? Its balancing was flawed and to be honest, the only reason it stands out is because it is the only recent one.

    Best Yellorium reactor design

Steam Dynamo: 40mb/tick of steam 80RF/tick of power or 2RF per 1mb of steam Big Reactor Turbine: 3.28 - 11.68RF per 1mb of steam Atomic Science Turbine: 3995RF for 1800mb steam(give or take a few 100)... or 2 - 2.2 RF per 1mb steam Mine Factory Reloaded Turbine: 40mb/tick of steam 80RF/tick of power or 2RF per 1mb of steam Big reactor turbines have the highest steam to power conversion of any steam device available in tekkit. Most, not all, other steam power devices have the same formula 2RF per 1mb steam. Even those in mods that are not in tekkit, like railcraft. In theory, it should be completely possible to run a big reactors turbine from an atomic science plasma generator(aka: fusion reactor). Would be an interesting monster to see. @randomchance Leave the coolant inside and just add coolant ports too the reactor when you start using turbines. The internal coolant healps greatly with efficiency and heat transfer. Otherwise the steam generation will be severely hampered.

Is Attack of the B-Team Boring???

If only. Oversensitive much? your op made me...do nothing but address what i saw as irrelevant slander. I bet you truly believe in 'trigger warnings' and 'cyberbullying' (snerk) Let me SHOW you what a critique actually is. This is less an attempt to 'mansplain' or 'educate' you, than it is to demonstrate your complete misunderstanding of the phrase 'constructive criticism' to any other readers. There is a minor but incontrovertible problem with AOTB, and that lies in the area of server owners. Frankly, the two core mods, resource acquisition (minions) and monster-making (Darwin) are flawed on servers... minions is too CPU-intensive for most server owners, who promptly disable it, leaving a huge hole in early-game resource acquisition and turning it into another 'get stuff and build fortress and turn to resource multiplication' instead of 'get stuff, start on monster making' that was intended. In addition, Biomes-o-plenty has written, into their code, a reassignment of the biome ID's for vanilla biomes. Darwin ONLY spawns in the original (with the original biome IDs) numbers, which means, in a biomes-o-plenty world, that only beaches are valid spawn locations... and only a very few very rare beaches at that. When added to multiple players flying around early on and clearing spawn locations, the entire mod is completely inaccessible to the vast majority of players on servers. There are a number of possible solutions. to the first problem, minions could be replaced... I hate this idea personally, since I love minions and think it's perfectly thematically appropriate for the mod. possible replacements include tohou's dolls, ancient warfare, or even computercraft (for that overcomplicated old-school feel). This would likely need to be paired with an updated storage system, such as better storage or iron chests, in order to deal with the extreme resource overflow (instead of pinpoint acquisition) that such sledgehammers usually entail. Ancient warfare includes it's own storage solution, but it is an extremely involved mod that would shift the focus slighly from 'mad scientist' to 'evil overlord'. alternatively, of course, the default configuration could be changed, to only 1 or perhaps 2 minions out at a time. This is the solution I personally favor, since it would only take moments to implement, require no testing, and would neatly resolve the issue (minion cpu problems are multiplicative... a single minion is scarcely more CPU intensive than a horse, once you remove the staggered task management of multiple minions from the equation). Of course, with such restricted minions, a reduced cost multiplier would probably be appropriate, say .5 or 1 (2exp or 4 exp levels respectively) althugh food costs could remain unchanged (self-regulating) As far as the darwin problem, though, I cannot really see a solution that doesn't require a radical restart (bop getting removed will nail all the new servers) or being replaced by a similarly low-footprint monster-maker, such as utility mobs. That is constructive criticism. I am not saying I am right or that they should immediately drop everything and implement my suggestions, but I am explaining the whys and wherefores and relating them directly to the stated goals of the pack, which is the mad scientist thematic. I offer SEVERAL possible solutions, starting with the most dramatic and labor-intensive and ending with the one I see as being the most likely to implement, that way they can see where I am coming from and my reasons for coming from there, and maybe add to the research I have done already if they have reason to distrust my veracity or need to verify. This is not 'furrymuck'. there is not a monolithic set of wizards that can approve little bits of code or a place where social justice rules. this is a forum for discussing video games, where logic and courtesy, not entitlement and gender politics, are important. Try to keep that in mind.
