A few people have been asking about this, so I thought I'd do a basic, step by step tutorial on how to build a server for you custom modpack. To make it even easier, I have done the tricky stuff for you!

    Step One
Grab the base server files from here which correspond to your Minecraft version:

    MC Version - Cauldron Version

    *Links removed*

Unzip the file, create a new folder called 'MyServerNameHere'. Copy the unzipped files into the new folder.

Minecraft Forge now requires the minecraft_server.jar as well. This has been included in the zips above but don't get freaked out because it doesn't appear in the screenshots below!

    Step Two
So you got your pack right? What you need from it are the mods, coremods and config folders. If you have Flan's mod, you need the Flans folder as well. Copy them over into the 'MyServerNameHere' folder. It should now look like this:

Reminder! In 1.6+ NO mods go in the coremods folder! Everything goes in the mods folder!

For this, I have used the example of my pack, Yogcraft Extreme.

    Step Three
This is an important step. You MUST delete all client side mods from the coremods and mods folders. This includes any NEI plugins from mods, any Voxel mods and Inventory Tweaks. This also includes Dynamic Lights, Custom LAN Ports, Optifine, any minimap mods and GUI API. Only mods that actually add content to the game need to be included. Otherwise, bin it!

    Step Four
The pack is now done! Just run the launch.bat file and hey presto, it all works!

    Errors
Most errors when running the server or playing the server can be fixed with a simple update. A common problem with Voxel Mods is if another mod is out of date, it will crash upon disconnecting from the server. Whatever that mod is, update it to its latest version for the version of MC you are using.

I intend to update this as necessary, so if you have any other bugs/errors, post them below and I will endeavour to help you.

We are launching on Christmas Day

    Hold on to your butts.

The new Platform is here: http://beta.technicpack.net/
The new Launcher is available from here: LauncherV3

This is a major design and (especially) feature shift from the current system.

For those of you that make packs you get access to a wealth of social features, update-in-launcher aspects and a very clear line of communication to your users. Your Platform page is now a very robust platform (heh) from which to show off your creation and engage with your users directly.

For those of you that just play, now you'll have many more ways to interact with pack creators and a voice of your own to highlight packs you like, read what other users are doing, etc.

Everyone will benefit from the new system, and we hope you guys like it as much as we've loved creating it for you. Please remember that this is not complete and things will be broken. If you find something that doesn't work like you think it should post it here, or come to #platformbeta on SynIRC and let us know.

If you already have a Platform account (not the same as your Forums account) just use the same info to log in, remember to use your email instead of your username.

We did the livestream and it was fun. Watch the recording here:

Saturday March 29th @ 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
    Where: http://www.twitch.tv/sctx

Are you ready to see what is waiting for you with the new Technic? Are you pumped to see just how gosh-darn pretty it will all look? Then you should make some space on Saturday, March 29th where sct, CanVox and I we will be livestreaming the new Technic Platform, Launcher, designs and features for both, and general chit chattery. We'll be answering questions, swerving wildly off-topic and probably just being idiots.

    Topics to be Talked About:
New Platform and how rad max it is!  Tired of upvotes being the only way to sort packs? Us too! New Launcher and how max rad it is!  Looks great, performs better. Platform integration means doing more within the launcher itself from the comfort of your desktop (Linux, Mac and PC's are all invited) How great both of them work together in wonderful ways!  I'd say 'synergize' but I'm pretty sure you have to be a giant company to use that word. Why sct constantly says things like "omg you guys elastic search" while he's all sweaty and breathing heavy!  This happens more often than you'd think! Where Technic could go in the future!  We want to move into new directions, new games. Making things easy for every gaming community to enjoy itself is a pretty rad goal we think. New art!!  It's so fresh and so clean, we'd like to have some posters and shirts someday! Real world costs and how we plan to pay for all of this!  We're down 3 kidneys and two mortgages!
Joking aside, costs for operating Technic have grown dramatically in the last year, and spiked hard when we launched Attack of the B-Team. Because the new Platform and Launcher include so many new features that are going to blow your minds, we've got some decisions to make on how to pay for all this. Right now we have a significant hosting bill across two services, we have three full-time people who "do" Technic exclusively, and we have a few other various people that do incredible work for the community. Like most websites Technic's lifeblood is ads on our site, but with the new features and services we're going to provide and costs being what they are *right now*, we have to do something else. Rather than curse  ourselves to sell out to a much larger company we are determined to do this ourselves. Since the new Launcher integrates with the new Platform in such a way to allow lots of things to be done within the Launcher (as opposed to having to go to the website) we're looking at having a single small ad (300x250) within the launcher itself. Nothing is set in stone and we certainly don't want to upset the community, but the reality is things cost money and they have to be paid for somehow.

We don't have a time set for when the stream ends, but typically when we hang out privately we do it for an hour or two, so plan on that if you'd like to stay for the whole thing.
Any questions or concerns about anything I've said above or about the stream in general post em' here or tweet with the hashtag #newtechnic!  On the stream, we'll be answering questions posted to twitter and in the stream chat.

See you guys at Saturday March 29th @ 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.

SXScarecrow got a reaction from Emaster326 in New Launcher
Apologies if it is in the wrong place, I thought it had better go in a forum about creating things than anywhere else. We are doing this for several reasons:
The three of us had all run successful servers and communities before (one of us still does, with my help) and we wanted to try something new, a challenge if you like. Two of us have excellent experience creating and managing modpacks and from time spent here, I know lots of people struggle with it. We wanted to simplify the whole process, and when 1.7.2 came out, we were inspired. My server and community ran into difficulties and was shut down. I needed something else to fill the gap. We honestly believe we can create a launcher of excellent quality to benefit the community. The way we see it, even though they are some exceptional ones out there, we can do just as good as they have. More competition is not necessarily a bad thing. So there's some of our reasoning. Once again, apologies if this is in the wrong place.

    Hi there,

It's been a while since I last posted here, but I've been tied up with exams etc, and in a collaboration with two other talented people (we like to think ourselves as a sort of unholy trinity) we are working on a new project; yet another flipping Minecraft Launcher! The name kind of sucks at this point, but we have a working prototype (well, working on Mac anyway, Windows testing is coming). The general idea is to allow end users to create their own modpacks within the launcher, so they literally select a MC version, what mods they want, and the launcher downloads those mods and launches them in an MC instance. For versions post 1.7.2, ID conflicts won't be an issue, however we still have a lot to fix before this idea becomes a reality (we already have it working at a very basic level at this stage, so its not impossible, just flipping difficult). Of course, in addition to this there will be premade modpacks on the launcher ready to grab at any stage, and we are also planning a Platform-like system for public, user-created modpacks. There is a huge amount to figure out, but from the start we decided this would be a proper community project and so we would like to hear your feedback on what this new launcher project should and should not include. I have much enjoyed Technic over the years and am constantly amazed at what comes from this community of awesome nutters, but now we want to see if we can do it too! Please post your feedback below and if you come up with a decent name, feel free to share since we suck at naming things! (Seriously, look at my modpack, geez....)

EDIT: Unsure of where to post this so I stuck it here, seemed to be the most appropriate place.
