Chanku reacted to Curunir in Let's test Tekkit 1.2.10c beta!
If Tekkit wants to stay relevant, the pack needs to make a case for itself.
In the still-current iteration, it was the focus on Galacticraft, which I personally found not that brilliant - mostly because I dislike Galacticraft a lot. A renewed Tekkit would first need to adapt the must-have newer tech mods like Mekanism. Then take a good look at non-tech stuff and decide which of these mods actually add fun gameplay and should be kept or expanded on, and which should be dropped. For example, I think that Mystcraft is a non-tech mod that adds much to the game, while DimensionalDoors is essentially useless and tends to corrupt world saves. And so on.

That is much work, and I wonder if the project has the manpower to even start it.

After fiddling around with some of the mods mentioned, I second the request for OpenBlocks, Mekanism, and possibly Chisel. Still not seeing the point in Tinker's Construct, but I wouldn't mind it being included.

For multiblock liquid storage, try Dynamic Tanks 2, a very lightweight (and supposedly lag-free) tank mod. I added it to Tekkit myself because I was sick of tanks only stacking vertically, and it works perfectly. I was going to suggest it to the modpack authors as well when the time is right.

As for Biomes O'Plenty, it works fine with Mystcraft, the only problem is that you're going to find dozens, if not hundreds, of biome pages for every other feature page, simply because there will be so many of them. That said, I added BoP to my Tekkit, too (together with Alternate Terrain Generator), and I wouldn't want to play vanilla worlds anymore. The sheer beauty and variety (and sort-of realism, if you configure it accordingly - no jungles intersected by ice plains or something like that anymore) of BoP+ATG worlds compared to vanilla worlds is mind-blowing. It is quite resource-heavy, though, that's correct. My computer can easily handle it so I don't care, but it might indeed be unsuitable for a balanced pack. For a little more variety in world generation, though, there are smaller biome-enhancing mods like Highlands, which might be worth a try.

In notch's defense, I suspect the guy is having the same issue many lotto winners have. The idea of being obscenely rich is so alien to him his brain is incapable of comprehending what the money actually means and has defaulted to something it could handle.

Every couple of weeks some lucky schmuck in the US wins $40-300m and is presented a choice, take a lump sum that cuts off somewhere between 30-50% of the jackpot, or get it all as an annuity over 30 years. What they decide is a good indication of how their brain is confusing the situation.
Lump sum: Their brain sees a big number and it just keeps going, all the way to infinity. They cannot comprehend ever using it all up so the choice between infinite now and much less than infinite every year is a no brainer.
Annuity: It can't be happening, because big numbers like that exist for other people only. So there's no difference between what they currently make and that number with a couple wrongly placed zeros, and they need to maximize it and keep it as tightly guarded as possible because one wasteful decision cans end you right back to the poor house.

I'm guessing notch falls into the second group, he just cannot comprehend how much he actually can do with this money and sees it as less than it actually is.
I get that idea from a quote they had of him on npr. Apparently the guy took the deal because he doesn't want to be part of the big game biz and plans on using the cash to make a couple more small games.
The guy could hire his old team with million dollar salaries and putz around with any game idea they felt like, dedicating as much as any AAA title out there, and still not dent his cash reserves for decades. And he expects it will let him personally make a couple games...

Personally I find psychology interesting. It's what keeps me with minecraft, the drama it runs on is just ripe with all flavors of neurosis, complexes, and full on delusions.

As for the future, I know KSP could use a good mod installer/manager and minetest looks like it just needs some love for it to completely replace minecraft.

I for one Actually like mmpowersuits ( for what little time we have left with it ) you know, besides the fact that its hard to configure. ( apparently )

Besides the fact that lux capacitors bypass claims ( griefprevention )
Besides the fact that leafblowers bypass claims ( griefprevention )
Besides the fact that attempting to recolor the powerfist usually disconnects you XD.

Chanku reacted to Niverton in Wireless Networks With ME and Tesseracts?
The cheaper way is to connect a Logitic Pipes system to your network (a provider pipe connected to an ME interface) and add a Logistics Inventory System Connector Pipe. Just put the pipe next to an enderchest (maybe a tesseract will work, I don't know EDIT: Don't use a tesseract, they're buggy with LPs) and put the same chest to your other base with the sister inventory pipe, connected to your other network with a provider/interface
For a replacement to the ME wireless thing, see Remote Orderer Logistics Pipe with enderchest/enderpouch
Did not try this myself, will need some testing, but this should work

Chanku reacted to dwwojcik in The Technic Launcher's future
He didn't feel like playing mine craft any more. Technically he didn't need to stay, but his dev team hasn't done a good job.
The developer didn't like technic, so he added some code that corrupted worlds if forestry detected that it was part of Technic or Tekkit. Sengir has since taken the code out and apologized, but I guess somebody at technic holds a grudge.
Correction: Here at dwwojcik3rdperson Inc. We regret our incorrect choice of words and regret any undue mental duress or confusion we may have caused.

Alblaka, the main dev on IC2, left.

GregoriousT took the reins, but he had his focus on Gregtech, his own mod project, rather than trying to resuscitate IC2.

The Technic Launcher is by no means dead or dying, anywhere except among your circle of friends. Have you even seen the Platform? There are almost forty thousand public modpacks on the Platform, plus who knows how many private packs. Attack of the B-Team drove FOUR TIMES the traffic that Technic staff planned for.

As for your complaints about Tekkit's mod list, Technic dropped IC2 because after 1.4 Alblaka vanished, leaving the future of the mod in jeopardy. As it turned out, the Technic team were more or less right. IC2 experimental currently says it's "unstable, may break worlds" (read: not suitable for modpacks) at the top of its download page, and IC2-legacy has seen a total of two commits since July 2013 and at latest runs on Minecraft 1.6.2. You also suggest substituting EE3 for EE2 and Project Red for Redpower, which Tekkit currently does.

Tekkit won't have Forestry because the author of Forestry attacked Technic users' worlds, and it won't have Thaumcraft because it's both a very intrusive mod if you don't want to play it (see: taint) and Tekkit is a tech pack, not a magic pack. If those mods are what you're looking for, Feed the Beast's packs might be more up your alley. The Technic team can't cater to everyone's modpack desires, though, so that's what Platform is for.

Voxel got their own launcher solution, so use it if you really want their pack. Technic SSP was useful when there were mods that couldn't run on multiplayer, but that ended with 1.4, so the team retired it. (If you really want, there are four or so on the Platform. That little search box really helps.)
