  1. That's about what I expected, and it will be in line with my method, except I'm just going to do a simple cuboid bounding box around the entire structure plus a margin instead of trying to figure out exactly what little bits should and should not be considered "on" the carriage. I don't really think that will be disruptive.

So, entities inside of the moving structure will all stay in place relative to the structure?

That sounds much better than having all entities sliding into the walls when I move my base.

  2. So, one interesting quirk I found for moving players is that you slide if standing on top of a moving frame, (which is fine), but you move along with the frame platform if you are less than or equal to one block away from a block that is moving and is raised. So, like this.

    X-*----

    XXXXX

Where is a moving block, * is the player, and - is empty space. If this structure is moved to the right, the player will also move to the right. If the raised block is taken away, the player will remain in place until the platform is pulled out from under them. This also works with dropped blocks, mobs, etc.

    CLEAR! ~bzzt~

Luke, you should love this one. Your class will probably hate you, lol.

Note that the following is quoted wholesale from "The complete idiot's guide to string theory". I wanted to paraphrase, but the book makes much more sense than what I was going to post.

As intuitive as the principle of relativity is, it seems to lead to a contradiction. If the laws of physics are the same for everyone, then so is the speed of light. Once you set a light wave in motion, it takes on a life of its own, divorced from its source. It moves at a rate that depends only on the laws of electromagnetic waves. Experiments have confirmed this autonomy to a high precision. But it throws our expectations about relative motion for a loop. Suppose you're standing on a station platform and I'm on a train gliding by you at 25 miles per hour. If I throw a ball forward at 20 mph, it'll actually be going 45 mph relative to you standing on the platform- a fact you'd better keep in mind if you try to catch it. The total velocity is the sum of the two mph's. So it stands to reason that if I shine a light beam toward the front of this moving train, it'll go 25 mph plus the speed of light. Yet you're supposed to see the light moving at the same speed as I do. So what gives?

This apparent paradox is one of those situations I discussed in the last chapter where an interloper is hidden in our thoughts, some unstated assumption we've taken for granted and shouldn't have. Einstein, standing on the shoulders of Dutch physicist Hendrick Lorentz and others, smoked it out. The total velocity is not simply the sum. A new rule for calculating relative velocities ensures that light always moves at the same speed for everybody. And that means something funky must be going on with time. :psyduck:

Suppose my fellow passenger and I stand back-to-back, like duelers at the center of the moving train car. Each of us throws a ball toward the end of the car. The balls will hit the wall at the same time. You, standing on the station platform also see the balls hit at the same time. Although the train car is moving, the balls are moving along with it. Now suppose I do the same experiment with light. I turn on a light bulb in the middle of the moving train car. Shafts of light travel toward the two ends of the car. A fraction of a second later, those of us on board see the light beams reach the ends of the car. But to you, standing on the station platform, the outcome differs. Unlike the balls, the light isn't moving with the train. It has its own fixed speed. In the time it takes light to travel the length of the car, the rear comes forward to meet the light, and the front of the car moves away from it. Accordingly, you see the light hit the rear before it hits the front.

    Discuss.

  4. I think if you get a warning point that links to the needless hostility thread, then it counts as "being a dickbag."

Anyway to get back on topic: Hexxit looks really frickin' cool, guys. It's obviously an rpg-ish modpack, but I wonder which play mode it will be oriented towards.

What do you mean by play-mode? Like building a base vs. wandering around forever?

  5. A class that allows you to temporarily convert monsters to your side at cost of health. A high level one would be able to declare one monster a familiar, the decision for familiar cannot be reversed(easily) but a familiar can always be summoned and levels with the person.

    Names could be:

    Beastmaster

    Tamer

    Mentameister

Considering that these beasts are made of nothing other than chunks of ones and zeros, wouldn't the class technically be a bytemaster?

  6. Hello.

I am new to this tekkit, but im starting to get it.

Now i just got a question.

Is it possible to mine forward, and not down? im using a simple miner that just mine down, but can you make it mine another direction?

    Or maybe with another tool?

    ...Bojsen

Not sure exactly what you are asking, but I don't believe there are any automatic mining machines that you can point sideways, with the exception of mining turtles, which don't really have a direction.

  8. They're like my dog--they'll get so excited they just have to run up to you and show you what they found.

Well, okay, she's just plain excited to say hi, but you get the idea.

Like pretty much any dog. But we digress...

I hope there will be some sort of way to customize your character in this besides just having different items/following different tech trees.

  9. Oh, and while this thread is back, I thought I may as well mention a new game I found to be entertaining. It's not exactly creepypasta, but it has a similar vibe, (hey, it scared me), and the art is very reminiscent of Imscared. It's called Yeti Hunter. And it's made by Vlambeer.

    Definitely worth a try.

  10. vitorsly is banned for having illegal amounts of monocle in his avatar. Silly raccoon, trying to subvert the laws on monocle control.

I bet that top hat is an unapproved size as well. How dare you wear an illegally modded top-hat! I shall call the classy-half-robot-animal-control center at once!

  11. This might make for some silly PvP battles with armies of vorpal soldiers.

Oh my... this... could be very fun. I look forward to this mod. Part of me wants to suggest that we have some sort of high-tier end-game one-shot area-of-effect spell/ throw-able potion.

Perhaps some sort of vorpal vortex is in order? Keheehee.
