Mooseman9 reacted to Dark_Arcana in The New Technic Platform and Launcher
Someone REALLY doesn't like change. Or grammar. Since when are people running off in droves to join the FTB fan club? FTB has literally nothing on Technic. They have some (poorly made) modpacks and a .. second rate launcher in comparison. They do not have Solder. And they don't have any of the other amazing technology that the Technic team has in store. The mods and modpacks that are a part of this community != the sum total of Technic and its future. Technic is a platform, a launcher; a system designed to bring amazing things to the public in a unique and interesting way that makes it much easier for the people behind the scenes and the end users. If you don't like the modpacks that they put together, seriously, get over it and make your own exactly how you want it to be! That is the power that they give you, and for free. In summation, Technic isn't going to "Fall" as you say. They aren't making a grand display as a last move to save themselves from collapse. They are making progress and forging a new way into the future with even more cool things. If you don't have anything constructive to say, sometimes it's best not to say anything.

We did the livestream and it was fun. Watch the recording here:

Saturday March 29th @ 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
    Where: http://www.twitch.tv/sctx

Are you ready to see what is waiting for you with the new Technic? Are you pumped to see just how gosh-darn pretty it will all look? Then you should make some space on Saturday, March 29th where sct, CanVox and I we will be livestreaming the new Technic Platform, Launcher, designs and features for both, and general chit chattery. We'll be answering questions, swerving wildly off-topic and probably just being idiots.

    Topics to be Talked About:
New Platform and how rad max it is!  Tired of upvotes being the only way to sort packs? Us too! New Launcher and how max rad it is!  Looks great, performs better. Platform integration means doing more within the launcher itself from the comfort of your desktop (Linux, Mac and PC's are all invited) How great both of them work together in wonderful ways!  I'd say 'synergize' but I'm pretty sure you have to be a giant company to use that word. Why sct constantly says things like "omg you guys elastic search" while he's all sweaty and breathing heavy!  This happens more often than you'd think! Where Technic could go in the future!  We want to move into new directions, new games. Making things easy for every gaming community to enjoy itself is a pretty rad goal we think. New art!!  It's so fresh and so clean, we'd like to have some posters and shirts someday! Real world costs and how we plan to pay for all of this!  We're down 3 kidneys and two mortgages!
Joking aside, costs for operating Technic have grown dramatically in the last year, and spiked hard when we launched Attack of the B-Team. Because the new Platform and Launcher include so many new features that are going to blow your minds, we've got some decisions to make on how to pay for all this. Right now we have a significant hosting bill across two services, we have three full-time people who "do" Technic exclusively, and we have a few other various people that do incredible work for the community. Like most websites Technic's lifeblood is ads on our site, but with the new features and services we're going to provide and costs being what they are *right now*, we have to do something else. Rather than curse  ourselves to sell out to a much larger company we are determined to do this ourselves. Since the new Launcher integrates with the new Platform in such a way to allow lots of things to be done within the Launcher (as opposed to having to go to the website) we're looking at having a single small ad (300x250) within the launcher itself. Nothing is set in stone and we certainly don't want to upset the community, but the reality is things cost money and they have to be paid for somehow.

We don't have a time set for when the stream ends, but typically when we hang out privately we do it for an hour or two, so plan on that if you'd like to stay for the whole thing.
Any questions or concerns about anything I've said above or about the stream in general post em' here or tweet with the hashtag #newtechnic!  On the stream, we'll be answering questions posted to twitter and in the stream chat.

See you guys at Saturday March 29th @ 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.

Mooseman9 got a reaction from Unehydrodyday in Old School RPG Games
On Steam, there is a game that is greenlit called Secrets of Grindea. I've watched the trailer for it, and this game looks flipping amazing. The only problem is, it hasn't been released yet. Since then, I've been craving to play a game similar to this, but have been unable to find one after minutes of googling.

What I'm asking is, can you guys suggest any games that are similar to this?

Oh man this thread! I was like "man the whalebox hasn't gotten anything new in a while, maybe I should reopen this thing." and wow. A site called dudequest, someone talking about their fedora collection, and about a dozen people saying they're not angry while calling others angry.
I'm glad we could get to the bottom of that bat thing guys!

How is this question at all relevant? And just for the sake of honesty, no, I do not own any trilbies. Those are the hats commonly mistaken for fedoras and popularized as the favored headwear of MRAs.

I do, however, own a couple of rather snazzy fedoras. Actual fedoras. Not trilbies. And I honestly don't pull them off too well, so they remain in my closet, forlorn and unworn.

Am I? really? Please, show me where I advocated assaulting women? ANYWHERE in these forums is fine.

in point of fact I actually teach women's self-defense classes at my church two nights a week. Now you are complaining about my not being a politically correct vampire? seriously? (rofl) My ability to recognize and call attention to commonly-used internet psychological ploys has no bearing whatsoever on whatever my politics are, which has no bearing whatsoever on the fact that someone was USING those ploys in an attempt to cultivate sympathy for an aggressive attack on a mod developer. One which I find reprehensible.

and, BTW, I am most assuredly NOT an M(H)RA. your frothing indictment makes up for in violence what it lacks in coherence. And your attempt to silence dissent is more a clue as to your personal politics than mine.

Frankly, I think that Furry has a right to insult whomever she chooses (although it strongly skirts the line of violating board rules about personal insults) , just like I have a right to call attention to the fact that her 'constructive criticism' was anything but, and why. These are not 'human rights' or 'revealed rights' or 'enlightened rights', they are rights granted specifically by the owner of this board, in who's back yard we are playing. The freedom of speech we are granted here is NOT to be taken for granted, as it is not speech, it is text on an owned bulletin board.

Let me give you a hint.... close the internet, sit back, relax, watch some TV, and think about the fact that you are capable of doing so at any time. heck, play some single-player minecraft... did you notice I am not there? I am not in the same room with you, you don't even have to listen to anything I say or read anything I write... See how easy that was? Then you can come right back and put on your pure white virtual armor of chastity and board your electronic horse (since riding real horses is objectifying and denying their right to not be oppressed) and defend the heck out of whatever it is you are talking about, Like putting people in prison for thought and speech crime.

    Isn't that great?

    @Freakachu;
Dudequest IS, in fact, my site... one I post on every time the vitriol from my ex-wife gets too much to take. It's a venting site, one which, in fact, has absolutely no traffic whatsoever. Unless some cyberstalker goes looking for ammunition... I am not a politician, I am self-employed, I could care less about getting doxxed, it will not harm me in any way. That's why I have a real life picture of my face and have mentioned where I live multiple times. My woman knows about dudequest, my family knows about it, I have nothing to hide.
It has no bearing on what I say here. I am here to talk about minecraft, not politics.

Actually, the fact that the guy tracked me here in order to attack me in an entirely inappropriate forum is oddly pleasing. He actually read my rants and took them a lot more seriously than I did when I wrote them.

In reading over this thread, I have come to the conclusion that FPS Furry does not, in fact, want people to discuss the varying merits of B-team but rather wants a soapy hugbox of people agreeing with him, with the occasional poorly-worded strawman argument or personal attack for the Yes-Men to utterly dismantle.

Honestly, there's really nothing wrong with thinking the modpack is boring. You're entitled to your opinions, and it's fine to not enjoy the modpack. Saying Technic as a whole has jumped the shark is a bit strong, and doing literally nothing but complaining about what you don't like in the pack while refusing to offer actually constructive criticism is just silly.

Personally, I love the concept behind B-team. A big damn box of awesome toys alongside enough tech-tree automation to scratch that particular itch is a great idea and is something I applaud.
