Having the same problems, I updated my Java and it helped me get into the game. But when I got in my FPS goes from 120 to immediately 3 FPS and doesn't stop being horrible. This modpack worked before the update on 3.09.2014, now I feel it's about to ruin my series and has wasted my time. Please FIX!

For the record, this isn't entirely Apple dickishness (though they're being dicks and you should certainly complain to them or they'll keep thinking it's ok to do things like this), Oracle deserves some of the blame for being dicks too.
With that said, the only way you can do it that I can think of is to get some software like Pacifist (this will allow you to install packages manually in MacOS)

If you're interested, you can tweak all of the modern gun values for damage, accuracy, firerate, bulletdrop etc. all in the Flan folder, you'll find a zip called modernweapons Pack for Flans Mod 4.1.zip and in there there's a bunch of folders.
Boxes : Info about the ammo box, where you can set costs and remove guns.
Bullets : Bullet drop, Clip capacity, Clip max stack sizes.
Guns : Damage, Accuracy, Firerate, Allowed Mods.
