Prot3ch is a small community custom modpack server that has existed since the first release of tekkit classic. The server is completely freebuild, meaning you are free to build in nearly any location you choose.
For protection against greifers we use greifprevention and prism ontop of daily world back ups in case there are severe griefs. The fact that the server is whitelisted also helps with filtering out greifers.
Our modpack Protonus is quite varied and has mods such as ThaumCraft, MineFactoryReloaded, IC2, Mekanism, Biomes O’ Plenty, ComputerCraft, OpenComputers and much more! A complete mod list and changes to the configs can be found at prot3ch.net/modpack.
We are also very open to mod suggestions! (Please make your suggestions on the forums so they can be discussed with the staff and the community.)
We are using WorldBorder, this is to have the world preloaded so that you can freely explore without having to deal with lag! The world border is currently 6000 blocks in radius centered on spawn. Believe me, this is more than enough. If it would ever be required we can expand the world border, although this is incredibly unlikely.

I just tested them out, and Mekanism ores work in thermal expansion Pulverizers, AE2 Grindstones, and are in the ore dictionary (therefore work in any machine using the ore dictionary, which is every major mod.)

And no, Metallurgy does not change other mods ore spawning, but it does provide a centralized method to control most of the common ores in the game. E.G. Copper, Tin, Iron, Zinc, and Brass.

What I found as the easiest way to control ore spawning is to disable all other mod versions of a ore (So not having 6 different coppers), and only enable one mod's version. Since Metallurgy has various types of common ores and since its spawning of those ores is very controllable, I found it easiest to use Metallurgy as the "core" ore generating mod. However, since it does not offer ore spawning for ores such as Osmium, Apatite, or Silicon, it is still required to use other mods to generate the few ores not spawned by Metallurgy.

Why I would like to join the community: I have wanted to find a nice community that I can join that isn't focused on PvP and donations  for a long time, and it seems as though I have found it. I have a large amount of experience with modded Minecraft, running modded servers, and being helpful in general. I have also been looking for a larger modpack that allows for large bases and a more enjoyable experience, which this fits nicely.

We did the livestream and it was fun. Watch the recording here:

Saturday March 29th @ 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
    Where: http://www.twitch.tv/sctx

Are you ready to see what is waiting for you with the new Technic? Are you pumped to see just how gosh-darn pretty it will all look? Then you should make some space on Saturday, March 29th where sct, CanVox and I we will be livestreaming the new Technic Platform, Launcher, designs and features for both, and general chit chattery. We'll be answering questions, swerving wildly off-topic and probably just being idiots.

    Topics to be Talked About:
New Platform and how rad max it is!  Tired of upvotes being the only way to sort packs? Us too! New Launcher and how max rad it is!  Looks great, performs better. Platform integration means doing more within the launcher itself from the comfort of your desktop (Linux, Mac and PC's are all invited) How great both of them work together in wonderful ways!  I'd say 'synergize' but I'm pretty sure you have to be a giant company to use that word. Why sct constantly says things like "omg you guys elastic search" while he's all sweaty and breathing heavy!  This happens more often than you'd think! Where Technic could go in the future!  We want to move into new directions, new games. Making things easy for every gaming community to enjoy itself is a pretty rad goal we think. New art!!  It's so fresh and so clean, we'd like to have some posters and shirts someday! Real world costs and how we plan to pay for all of this!  We're down 3 kidneys and two mortgages!
Joking aside, costs for operating Technic have grown dramatically in the last year, and spiked hard when we launched Attack of the B-Team. Because the new Platform and Launcher include so many new features that are going to blow your minds, we've got some decisions to make on how to pay for all this. Right now we have a significant hosting bill across two services, we have three full-time people who "do" Technic exclusively, and we have a few other various people that do incredible work for the community. Like most websites Technic's lifeblood is ads on our site, but with the new features and services we're going to provide and costs being what they are *right now*, we have to do something else. Rather than curse  ourselves to sell out to a much larger company we are determined to do this ourselves. Since the new Launcher integrates with the new Platform in such a way to allow lots of things to be done within the Launcher (as opposed to having to go to the website) we're looking at having a single small ad (300x250) within the launcher itself. Nothing is set in stone and we certainly don't want to upset the community, but the reality is things cost money and they have to be paid for somehow.

We don't have a time set for when the stream ends, but typically when we hang out privately we do it for an hour or two, so plan on that if you'd like to stay for the whole thing.
Any questions or concerns about anything I've said above or about the stream in general post em' here or tweet with the hashtag #newtechnic!  On the stream, we'll be answering questions posted to twitter and in the stream chat.

See you guys at Saturday March 29th @ 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.

PBlock96 reacted to GenPage in Technic Modpack Server Utility
    Hey guys,

I've been working on a little project to make updating Technic Modpack Servers a little easier.

    https://github.com/GenPage/ServerCore

This will allow server owners to directly download or "install" (unzip) modpacks to a specified directory on their servers.

Its currently in a beta state. I thought now would be a good time to release it and get some feedback on it.

Here are some examples of the program:

    Displaying Pack Info:

Downloading all packs (default recommended builds)

    Downloading a specific pack

Downloading latest build of a specific pack

Downloading a specific version of a pack

Checks if build exists in the list

Checks if the modpack is still available

Let me know what you think!

If you have any issues with the program, please post them here:

It sounds like you are running Minecraft_server.jar instead of Tekkit.jar. Try running launch.bat (or start.bat) and then connecting to that server.

Edited the original post to include that so that if someone reads this they wont think thats how you pass arguments to java.

PBlock96 got a reaction from Luge in Technic Launcher Launch Parameters?
To do this you need to open up the modpack.jar and insert that param into the versions.json. In the version.json file close to the top there will be a line that looks like this:

"minecraftArguments": "--username ${auth_player_name} --session ${auth_session} --version ${version_name} --gameDir ${game_directory} --assetsDir ${game_assets} --tweakClass com.mumfrey.liteloader.launch.LiteLoaderTweaker --tweakClass cpw.mods.fml.common.launcher.FMLTweaker" Simply add that param  into that line. If you wanted to add any arguments to be passed to java, you would also want to include the second line with whatever arguments you wanted added. You would put the arguments you wanted passed to java on a separate line.
So, it would look something like this:
    "minecraftArguments": "--username ${auth_player_name} --session ${auth_session} --version ${version_name} --gameDir ${game_directory} --assetsDir ${game_assets} -Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true --tweakClass com.mumfrey.liteloader.launch.LiteLoaderTweaker --tweakClass cpw.mods.fml.common.launcher.FMLTweaker" "javaArguments": "<java args here>"

I don't really see the problem with selling things that people could get themselves. Not pay2win if they are getting the same stuff they could get on their own. God mode for $10k is ridiculous. I hope they come up with something that doesn't completely cripple the way we earn money for our servers. I've never made a lot like some servers, but I've made enough to keep the servers going. I fear that without being able to sell ranks and permissions I will be unable to continue providing a place for people to play.
