  1. ...

I think what he meant by slow was the control sensitivity which I did have to turn way up.

    ...

    Exactly what I meant.

I think the Xbox version was probably heavily optimized to run on it, since it's not really all that powerful compared to what you'd need to run a single client instance of minecraft, let alone a server with multiple people on it.

I think they actually managed to make it look a bit worse. I was watching the Yogscast guys play it and the sand on the beach they were near looked absolutely horrid from a distance. May have just been the resolution though.

  2. Anybody put any thought into the fact that they're charging $20 USD for a laggy unmoddable beta 1.6 build? Wanna tell me what that says for how much they care about their players?

Mojang has sure come a long way from the random Swede with a vision begging for support in alpha. I respected him, back then. Indies should make money like studios, sure, but not by acting as sleazy as them.

I don't think that Mojang has much to do with the XBox version. They probably were asked by the devs of the two new companies on the splash screen if it was okay to make an XBox version, and they said 'aight, and now probably don't do much of anything involving the XBox version, except maybe advise them.

  3. I dont think minecraft for xbox was intended to be the same as PC, yadadada.

More of for easy use, I got it to play with people that dont have great computers, or messing around with servers.

Yes it is primitive (being beta 1.6.6) but what do you expect? The same as PC? It takes much more to get updates and such on.

I totally agree with you. Just a note, I was never meaning to insult the XBox version, I was just saying that it will take a backseat to the PC version.

  4. The 360 version of Minecraft is complete and utter boring. Crafting is tedious, what takes me a mere five seconds with a mouse, took me at least a minute with the controller. Not to mention, they reversed the controls, right mines block, left uses item? Surely they've never played this game for the computer, right mines block, left uses item. Very simple logic, but it just doesn't seem to find itself in there.

As my friend from college explains, "It's much more polished, no bugs, no crashes, no memory issues, PC minecraft is just the testing ground for the console now." This man* received a good stern verbal punishment from me, but he doesn't listen, this is the man who uses a controller to play computer games, madness All in all the console version was just to make an absurd amount of money, and guess what? It did, what a surprise, what a surprise.

    * Edit, Reason; replaced "made" with "mad".

In regards to the controls of left placing, right mining, I think they are going off of the old 'free' version of Minecraft that is on the Minecraft.net website.

Also, you need a new friend. Playing computer games with controllers? May as well just get the console and play it off of that.

Finally, the computer version of Minecraft is still the main version almost everyone will play. I highly doubt Mojang will use it as a... testing ground... for the computer version, especially since they are PC gamers themselves, and considering the fact that the computer version is already months ahead of the console version, simply because they are using an old version on the console.

Also, I watched Simon and Lewis play a little bit of the console version, and the slow look speed was literally making me sick.

  5. Speaking of screw pumps, I think the hardest thing I have had to do in Dwarf Fortress was set up a screw pump to purify the water coming from the river a few levels above. First try caused the pumping area to flood, and luckily I had just built a floodgate at the entrance to my mess hall otherwise it would have been flooded. To fix it, I had to dig under the current reservoir I had built to hold the unpure water and make a bigger one, just so I could drain the main one enough that I could get to my screw pump again, which meant I had to dig into a completely filled pool of water from below, and hope that my dwarf could swim his way out (he did by the way). It was actually pretty fun.

  6. I only have LNP to allocate more CPU strength, disable the intro video, disable aquifers, and install a texture pack, none of that is considerably "newby", convenience is amazing, but when you use a program, to say, play a portion of the game, that's a tad bit silly. To elaborate, it would be if the mining turtles in the Tekkit mod package came with a ready and able mining AI, and were extremely cheap to make, and required nearly no work on your behalf. Or even better yet, those programs I see frequently that allow you to build without even opening minecraft. To wrap this point up, managing dwarfs is a core part of Dwarf Fortress, the dwarf therapist program detaches you from the immersion of the game, forcing you to exit Dwarf Fortress, and manage all your Dwarfs*, that in itself feels very odd and confusing. Now, to go back to the LNP, its never used beyond actually starting up the game, and you say disabling one portion of the game is newbie? I've tried, very hard to enjoy myself in DF while having that on, but I do not understand the challenge or point of them, not being able to dig past layer 3-5 is quite silly, and doesn't feel very Dwarvish. And I can see someone complaining about one using a texture pack, yes that is somewhat newbie, but I like actually seeing what things are, in this day and age I don't think anyone could complain about that. Allocating more CPU power... I could do that manually, sure, but as with Minecraft, making a small program to run before running Minecraft is not enjoyable at times. Disabling the intro... I've watched that thing around four hundred times, I do not want to watch it anymore.

    * Edit, Reason; Forgot to add an "s" here.

You don't have to settle on the aquifer. It's there to provide an extra challenge. Just like the areas that respawn corpses as zombies. If you can't find a place that you like because they are all taken by aquifers, spawn a new map. Also, you don't have to use DT to tell dwarfs what to do, you can also use it just to find who does what better, and then find them in your fortress. I use it and I still manually assign dwarfs to certain tasks. It's not taking anything away from the experience, just really helping you find that one dwarf who is hiding in a mass of others that is the best at... cheese making.

  7. Wait what? you think that lazy newb pack is fine and dorfy, but dwarf therapist isn't? disabling economy, liquid depth, aquifers, and various other challenges is fine, but a tool that lets you organize your dwarves is lazy?

I second this. At least Dwarf Therapist doesn't change anything in-game, unless if you tell it to actually schedule the tasks for you.

  8. I can't help but agree with this man whom is encased within a Taco. Anyone who uses external programs, other then The Lazy Newb Pack, to install a graphical pack, and disable Aquifers, is not fully enjoying the Dwarf Fortress experience.

I would think that disabling aquifers is hindering the Dwarf Fortress experience, as you are getting rid of a fun challenge. Also, Dwarf Therapist is almost a necessity when you get more than 50 dwarfs, as it is really tricky to find the right one. I have only used it to find out who I need to change to a certain job after I finally built what they need, only to find I had switched them to a mason. After I find that person, I look at their name and find them myself in-game.

It's more in the spirit of Dwarf Fortress than removing a challenge like an aquifer.

  9. Re: Esder scrolls MMO

You are still subbed to WoW? What is wrong with you?

I'm still subbed because it's my mom who is paying for it. And the fact that she still plays it. She originally got it for my brother, but I think she likes it more than either of us, as we don't really play it at all anymore.

  10. Hah, 6 gb!

Also, I can't buy it because I don't have a damn credit card (must be costly since it's skyrim)

I bought minecraft by paying my friend to pay his mom -.-'

Compared to the size of most new games, that is actually pretty small.

And yes, because it is a AAA game it is going to be the full 59$ price, unless if Steam puts it on sale again. Going to be 20 years until they put the price down to 19.99$ or whatever.

  11. I don't think I can run it.. at all.

Plus, I only have 10gb left on my computer.

That's enough space. It only takes up around 6 gigs. Also, you could just put the graphics down. My 6 year old computer can run it fine when it's set to midrange graphic settings. Although in its defense the graphics card isn't stock.

  12. listen guy, you've been shitting up a bunch of threads lately. this thread was already terrible and you actually managed to make it worse. not only that, You Are Typing Like This With Capital Letters For Every Word Even Though They're Not All Proper Nouns.

I don't get how someone can naturally type like that. Seems like a bit more work than either not using the shift key, or just capitalizing the proper words. Either that or they type it first in word, apply the capitalize the first letter of each word, and then paste it into the 'Post Reply' box.
