  1. I saw some thing in the config file for magical crops the went like this:

    I:"Magic Feetilizer ID"=xxxxx

and I wonder if this is a typo or intended. IF anybody on the thread know for sure, speak up please.

this post is almost 2 years old.  no one that was participating before is likely to be still having this issue.

  2. I remember when I played vanilla long, long ago.  it was a valuable experience in terms of learning the basics of the game and the very basic low level patterns.  I would get bored as fuck pretty fast were I to go back to vanilla now though.  I hate manually mining.  I put up with it on a new map only because I know I can get to a point where I don't have to ever touch my branch mine again.

I don't imagine you'll find too many people who still play vanilla on a modded MC forum, but who knows.

  3. That can happen to software? I know that, that happens to physical objects but I never knew it could happen to software.

It does when certain things outside the software that it depends on are no longer around or are no longer functional or are simply no longer compatible.

basically this.  the old launcher doesn't work anymore because the back end stuff it used to talk to to get pack updates/files has changed and no longer works the same way.  like it's calling a number and getting one of those "we're sorry, the number you're calling has been disconnected" messages.  the phone works, but you can't make the call.

  4. lately I've been rather lax about people signing their posts.  "it's not THAT big a deal, right?" I thought to myself, "people aren't rainbow coloring their names and flanking them with pointless punctuation like '-~xXsephirothff7gokukillerdong69Xx~-', or anything so it's no big deal to let it slide."

then I saw this post and hung my head in shame.  let it be known, -Peggin-, that YOU are the reason we can't have nice things.

    also, the answer is no.

  5. unless you have some sort of additional mod that is meant to control spawn rates, you're looking at editing config files.  that is assuming that the spawn rates of the mod are even configurable in the first place.

additionally, have a look at the global rules linked in my sig.

  6. First you should install the Java Runtime Enviroment (jre) by typing something like "apt-get install openjdk-7-jre" or "aptitude install openjdk-7-jre". Then download the Technic/Minecraft jar file, and put it on your desktop. Right click on it and go to the Permissions tab, then click the box that says "Allow executing file as program". Next, in the same window click the "Open With" tab and select OpenJDK Java 7 Runtime. After doing all of that you should be able to click it to run. This is how I run Technic and Minecraft on Ubuntu, and Ubuntu is based on Debian. Good luck!

I'm not sure, but did you perhaps miss this post by the OP?

Man, many thanks, i LOVE YOU so much...

Now i can play my fav packs.

    Really thanks!

not that trying to be helpful is a bad idea, but it looks like you didn't actually read the thread before posting.  also, while ubuntu is based on debian, they are not nearly as similar as you seem to believe.

  7. username is used for old, legacy accounts that haven't been migrated to the new (as of like over a year ago) system.  mine is still like that as well, but anyone who has bought MC recently uses their email address and not the user name.

as for a controller, I don't recommend it for a few reasons:

    1) keyboard+ mouse is an objectively superior control scheme for first person games.

    2) there are a ton of keybinds, far more than you can fit on a controller.

    3) there is no auto-aim or aim assist in the pc version, which will make any kind of precision aiming very hard with a controller i.e. using a bow

use the keyboard. your son will pick it up in no time flat, I'm sure.

  8. I did speak to GenPage before posting this, he gave me the go ahead.

EDIT: If you need proof I can send you screenshots of our PM conversation.

just talked to genpage and he confirmed this.  to be clear though, this isn't anything official nor is it supported in any way by us.  other than that, have fun.

  9. just finished responding to a PM about this, so I'll give you guys the same info I gave him.

basically, the chances of the votes being transfered to the recreated modpack are slim.  I won't say it's impossible because I'm not sct, but similar events have happened in the past and it did not happen in those cases as far as I'm aware.  however, the updated platform will make a lot of this a moot point by pretty much tossing the +1 rating system entirely because of problems like this among others.  I realize that saying "oh an update that has no ETA and has been 'coming soon' for months will totally solve your problem someday" is not super helpful, but it's the most helpful I can be in this situation currently.

  10. you'd be more likely to get an answer in the server OP section, but as far as I know, there isn't really a way to filter out the server console.  at least not in a useful manner, since the log levels used by mods often make no sense and aren't consistent.

  11. well, that's got to be the least intentional rage quit I've ever had a hand in causing.

I think the best part of this screed has been overlooked so far,

My only advice is, dont be a poor shit, get £1000/mo out of your wallet and blast it on a server with a hell of alot of processing power and quality ram, like i did.

"stop being poor" is pretty terrible advice.  people should totally just go harvest their money tree or get out, right?  super simple stuff.

  12. there isn't a very simple explanation for how to forward ports, mostly because it is different for almost any given router and is a rather technical thing in general.  your best bet would be to first, find your router then, google the make/model along with "port forward".

the thing to know is that the default minecraft server port is 25565, that's the port you'll want to be forwarding to your PC.

lastly, there's no need to sign your posts. please read the global rules linked below.
