  1. I'm playing on a server that doesn't suffer this problem, kinda. There are a few flaws with it, really.

EE and Nether is banned. PvP except in towns which cost money to run.

There are more biomes, but each biome won't have all of the ores, only certain kinds of resources. Glowstone, for instance, can only be found in elusive mushroom biomes. And ocean/beach/mushroom biomes don't have copper, which is found in forests and extreme hills (plains too?)

Diamonds are far more rare, manufacturing them is easier than digging for them. Uranium is extremely, extremely rare.

Solar panels and arrays are nerfed by a factor of eight. They're pretty pitiful now and no one seriously uses them since it's ludicrously expensive for an extremely small amount of energy.

Trading still occurs all of the time, people like settling in and just dealing with what they have, and are willing to trade for things they need. Often it's easier to trade for things than to go dig them up yourself. No one really has a quarry yet to my knowledge, but not because they don't have the resources, but rather because powering them is so difficult. I've been making a profit off of these trades, by selling ores in exchange for 1.5 ores of any kind. I negotiate this down if I have to, but most are eager to accept and trade ores they can easily find for ores they can't. Diamonds still sell for a high price, but I've been dealing with them a little higher than a baseline 64 coal. They're sold for 12.5% more than cost, a profit of 8 coal.

There are a number of things I would change. Solar panels should be 1.5-2x as effective as they are now, and should work 2x better in deserts. Quantum armor and nano sabers have been banned, but honestly nano hasn't been nerfed, and I think nano and quantum should be nerfed and then added back in, so the higher tier players have something to really work towards, also because nano isn't terribly hard to get.

  2. LOOK AT ME I HAVE A PICTURE OF A WOLF GIRL FOR AN AVATAR ISNT IT COOL THANKS GUYS IT HOUGHT IT WAS PRETTY COOL SO I POSTED IT AS MY AVATAR ALSO BY THE WAY HOW DO YOU MEAK TOO MANY ITEMS AND WHAT HAPPEN FORESTRY CANT MAKE WORK PLS HELP NEXT TEN MINUTE ALSO XRAY LAG ON SERVER HOW FIX?

  3. You need to mash those down into LV solar arrays.

Water mills DO NOT generate the same amount as solar panels. Solar panels generate 1 EU/t, a LV solar array 8 EU/t. But a water mill generates 0.01 EU/t unmanned per adjacent water block. In a maximum configuration it can only produce 0.25 EU/t. Manned it will produce 2 EU/t.

To power a quarry fully you're either going to have to get some generators going or get some more solar arrays and get TWO MV solar arrays, which you're not quite not close enough have, yet. You could use a miner instead, which is really what you should be doing rather than trying to use a quarry.

Or you can be satisfied with how slow it is.

  4. I just thought of a use for a Chemistry mod that would work as an add-in for IC and replace existing functionality. The whole charcoal into coal thing is mildly important because it turns coal into a renewable resource, but at the same time, current EE functionality makes it tad too easy.

Instead consider a way to create your own coal. After all, coal is a fossil fuel and is created from plants, originally.

Consider first how coal is made. Decaying plant matter is turned into peat, which is then compressed and over time turned into ignite; finally, further compression turns it into anthracite, or as we know it, coal. These functions can be replicated by IC.

First, plant matter would have to be broken down using a macerator into biomass (this is similar to forestry, I know), and then this biomass would have to be put in some machine, possibly a new one, or something, to be turned into peat. Peat can be put into a compressor to be turned into ignite (a brown coal, replace coal ore closer to the surface with this?). And then run it through the compressor once more to become coal (alternatively mined ignite could be compressed into coal -- consider it a lower grade coal).

I think maybe the peat process would be fixed with Forestry, and it's a damn shame it's not apart of the modpack anymore. But this could work.

  5. Well, I've been doing modding/level design for about a decade, perhaps longer. So I feel I should share my insights on this.

When you release a mod or other content into the public domain, there is always the chance people will attempt to steal it or use it without permission.

There are people who create things and like to keep tight reigns on content. I am not one of them, but I certainly see where they are coming from. After spending a lot of work and effort to create something it's reassuring to know it's going to be used well, and there's a feeling of deserved authority over one's work.

While it may not be illegal or immoral to use someone's work without their permission, it is an indecent act, and disrespects the author of the content. So it is understandable that the author of Forestry retaliated. It is his work after all.

I should mention that just because something is in the public domain, a person isn't entitled to use it as they please. And at the same time, it is advisable to modders to get a CC license to protect content.
