  1. See, I have no idea what this whole fiasco that was mentioned is about. I could care less about politics and internal struggles. The issue stands. Keep the server safe from those that wish it harm, and keep it simple at doing so.

"I don't care why things happen, just make them stop happening, I'm scared and confused. >:(" - You

Cut it out. Stop whining, things are changing, and for the better.

  2. More so than you realize. Their command list is incomplete on GitHub. I had to type out all the commands into a document from the console by doing /help <number>. There are duplicate commands, some that already are handled by the vanilla core, but conflict with the ForgeEssentials. For example, /gamemode does not allow me to set other peoples game modes by using the vanilla syntax. So the only way for the others to get this, is to make them an op, then let them do the command, and revoke op. Like hell that's happening.

Lack of permission description and information on the ForgeEssentials page. I'm sure they're busy crushing bugs atm, but no list of perm's at all? Not even one? Tux2's permission thread is simple at best, and offers minimal insight as to why I'm giving permission to each of those commands. So, I'm going off of Tux2's permissions for each group.

It'd be great to get a java app that would churn out these three files for you (Yes I'm lazy), so all you have to do is paste and start the server back up.

The command list is incomplete, because the PROGRAM is incomplete. Stop being an entitled child. You are having shit tailored to make it as easy as possible for you, but you're complaining that it isn't fully functional the entire time it's BEING MADE. Nut up, and wait until it's finished. You sound incredibly ungrateful.

  3. On first glance you would think it was a forum for people coming to look for help only to have some one call them stupid for not figuring it out on their own. CJ clearly does not visit the forum often, or he would have foreseen the hate fest his post inevitably turned into.

You're mistaken, the hate is only given out to people who have put literally zero effort into figuring it out on their own. The site has a search function, many just choose not to use it. CJ clearly doesn't visit the forum often, or he would have known we have a bit of intolerance for selfish egotistical assholes.

  4. I have tried that in the past and it does not work. The MOTD in server.properties is the one that is equivalent to your Server Name in the Multiplayer Server List. It does not output anything to the chatbox, the developer's thread even states doing this does not work.

It doesn't need to say anything. Put it there, and it works.

  5. Niavmai, sorry to disappoint but I don't think you could be any more naive.

I do not entirely understand the syntax and settings that are listed in the forgeEssentials config files.

For enabling the map, I have tried both methods (I even knew Bukkit's method would not work) from your link - that being on the forgeEssentials/commands/commands.cfg on this line: S:motd=

Excuse me? Naive? You're trying to put something in the wrong place, how am I the naive one? You put that into the vanilla motd, in your server.properties.

  6. Thank you for taking the time to explain this, thegreatpl! These things are finally starting to make sense. I only recently got into Tekkit for the first time, and was disappointed to see a departure from the Tekkit pack I was playing with when Tekkit Lite was introduced as I felt I had a lot of work/time/effort put into my world already and there seemed no way to migrate between what is now Tekkit Classic and the new Tekkit Lite.

This dilemma forced me to search for alternatives, which lead me to FTB. I scoured for what information I could find on how to proceed with a choice between the two, and had learned a lot of bits and pieces about what you just posted, but your complete post helps tie all of that disparate information together so I could make a more informed decision on what to play.

At this point, I'm waiting for the FTB Ultimate mod pack to be released and toying around with Mindcrack in the meantime. I love all of the things these mods do for Minecraft, but like many other people, don't want the hassle of finding and compiling all of these mods separately myself, and then having to update and maintain going forward. Having these mod packs and launchers makes it so much more accessible, and gives me the opportunity to play Minecraft in ways that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to.

Thanks again for taking the time to post the information -- it really helped me and I just wanted to be sure you knew the time you took helped at least one person quite a bit. :)

This person is wrong and has terrible opinions, please disregard his post and carry on with your life.
  7. Not yet, as far as I understand. I'm not sure there's actual definitions in ForgeEssentials for mobs yet, so you can't tell them no block damage. :L

E: I'm actually looking into figuring out if you can set NPC's into a playergroup, and assign them permissions as you would to a player. Stay tuned.

  8. Really? You have never heard of NoCheatPlus? It is no longer in development. It is a bukkit plugin that prevents hacking and was very popular.

So it's no longer in development, and for a mod that isn't being used in Lite now. So... maybe that's why no one's using it?

  9. It also shows how misinformed you are as well as the only thing the malicious code did was disable bee breeding by causing any breeding attempts to end in a special troll bee. Which would only cause minor harm to the area around your bee box so if you did not use bees their was no issue with the mod. Also note that the malicious code was only active in specific versions of the mod between technics update cycle so no one was directly effected by it. Other then the shock of finding out that its author would much rather put malicious code in his mod instead of doing the sane thing of asking for it to be removed directly.

With that aside my only real issue with tekkit light is that it is still using the old advanced repulsion mod that is based off the original MFFS instead of thunderdarks new one. Which is many time better at protecting a area from griefers that can easily by pass the force field via the many tricks out there.

Malicious code that only affects certain users, is still malicious code. No matter how small you consider it to be, it's code that intentionally does something bad.
