  1. Wow. man of the hour. I would love to keep the community alive. That being said, I would love to admin the server. however, i am not much of a techie so i cant vouch for that aspect of things. Even if we cant use the current modpack due to the microsoft mojang crap we could always just do a tekkit server with a few basic mods in it to spice it up a bit.

Well, as I said, my free time is extremely limited nowadays, but if you can find a modpack that everyone likes, I would be happy to bankroll it for the time being :P

  2. I'm not sure if I happened to decide to browsed the forums today by chance or by design, but seeing that it coincided miraculously with talk of the server being shut down, I can't help but feel obligated to say/ do something about it.

So, here it is - as you all may have guessed due to me disappearing for almost a year now, I don't have a whole lot of free time anymore. Given that I played Tekkit with some of you for almost a year, and that you guys managed to keep the server going for another solid year after that, I feel like I should do what I can to keep it alive. I'm fairly out of the loop on the current status of Minecraft/ Tekkit other than the fact that I see there are plugin issues and that Microsoft has apparently decided that we aren't allowed to have fun anymore. Likewise, with the lack of time on my hands I won't be able to run the server myself as far as administration/ back end work goes.

I'm not sure what the current situation is with Tub and the other admins/ mods, but if ANYONE is able to take care of some of the day to day work, I would be more than happy to either host the server on my old server rig or pay for a hosted server to continue the current server. I understand that manually building and updating the modpack must be a royal pain in the ass for Tub, so I would be fully open to transitioning to a preexisting pack if that's something people would be interested in. Obviously this wasn't expected, and I have no doubt that the current mods/admins have already had long discussions about what to do, but I feel like it would be wrong for me to not throw in a last ditch effort.

tl;dr Daddy is back for the attempted 11th hour save.

  3. I wonder what peoples opinions would be to using our own pack. Knowing what we do about the issues involved we can eliminate the extraneous and problem causing mods (Dim doors, multiple forms of chunk-loading ect) while adding the ones we know will work (AE, Thermal Expansion, Build craft, Myst craft ect) and the various small mods that will help avoid future issues (Extra Utilitys ect).

The downsides would be that we'll have to distribute it ourselves and I'm not sure where/if we could have listings for the server to become public. The upsides would be we'd have only the mods that people use, and are stable, rather then a hodgepodge of various mods, most of which do a lot of the same things (Does anyone actually use logistics pipes?)

    Its an idea.

For the moment I'm a tad busy with work and life, so I have no direct opinion. I'll play on whatever anything except vanilla.

I've actually been thinking more about that myself lately, I'm starting to miss some of the old mods like RailCraft. Theoretically, we could always stick with Tekkit as the main pack and then offer a separate server with a custom pack for people who have already joined. Alternatively I could start a new thread in the custom section for a custom pack and just keep them separate.

Just to clear things up though, we definitely won't be getting rid of the Tekkit server anytime soon.

  4. I really don't want to start up another sever the one we have has enough issues on its own with memory why make the problem worse?

We've managed to fix most of the issues as far as I can tell, the RAM usage has been much more reasonable as of late. Plus, if the new version of Voltz is anything like the old one, it should use significantly fewer resources than Tekkit. Server resources are another reason that I've been hesitant to do anything with FTB.

Also, I was just getting curious about texture packs myself, and it looks like there IS a pack for Tekkit 1.1.8, although you'll need to check the sphax forums for it.

  5. I've had a few players ask about the possibility of starting up another server alongside the current one, similar to when we ran the old version of Voltz alongside Tekkit Classic. Personally, I would love to start up a new Voltz server since it's been brought up to date, but I've also seen some interest in doing a FTB server of some kind as well as vanilla.

If you guys have any opinions, please share them, I'll be looking into starting something up over the next few days.

  6. its funny you can join our server and grief and harass staff , possibly spy , we know who you are and yet no-one on your server and i cant join your server instead of spying and/or harassing us try working on your own server so players can join , now i know you might think i'm being mean but you always could have asked for help

So lets clear this up right now - I went on your server to look around, I like to check out other servers sometimes to see what they're doing and occasionally give advise. I had a polite discussion with some of the people there about some of your rank setups/ etc, and I gave a few friendly suggestions about things like reducing your spawn size/ etc. Your moderator, who apparently decided that his job was to start flipping shit instead of being professional, decided to take everything as a personal insult. I'm sure your chat logs (if you actually have them...) will back that up.

As far as the number of players we have goes, you clearly are missing the point of hosting a good server. If player count is all that matters to you, you're doing it wrong. I deny probably about 70% of the applications I see because of a lack of effort, and that's what's helped this server last so long - the players actually give a crap about where they're playing and who they're playing with.

So, I'd like to offer you some of your own advice - spend your time making your own server better rather than wasting your time with retaliatory shit posting that just makes you look like a butthurt 12 year old. Fix your permisssions (some of your essentials nodes looked messed up), shrink your spawn (you don't need a 300 block radius barren circle that people have to run through to get to anything), make your rules a little more clear and visible, fix your chunk loading (if your host has an SSD option, I recommend it), and find some professional, trustworthy moderators.

Also, quintuple posting might be a tie for the current thread record, I need to go back and find that one other butthurt kid...

    tl;dr Get out.

  7. I apologize for the long MIA period, I've been extremely busy with work/ personal stuff, so I haven't had any time to get on and take care of business.

First of all, I'm updating the server to 1.1.8 as we speak since it's now recommended. It looks like there have been some nice mod updates as well as a few big fixes (OXYGEN SEALERS WORK!!!).

Second of all, to anyone that has applied over the last week or two, if you are still interested in joining, please send me a PM with your application. I'll get to them ASAP, but that will make it much easier for me to see who is still waiting on a decision.

Also, for anyone that has pumps/ etc. in the nether, please clear them out ASAP. I'm gonna be resetting the nether either tonight or tomorrow night. It looks like someone went apeshit with nether quarries and left flowing lava everywhere, and I have a feeling that might be responsible for some of the lag spikes.

  8. Hey everybody,

I'd like to ask all of you who have/plan to have a pump in the nether to either PM, /mail or post the Coordinates for them for me.. The recent lag was caused by a couple nether pumps I didn't have on my list. Nether pumps are fine. But the staff needs to know their locations so we can come through and use world edit to fix the lava. Other wise we get that mystery lag we've been dealing with.

Like I said you can PM me here, or use the /mail send TehTub <message> command in game.. Or if you don't mind people knowing the location of your pump you can post it below..

    Thanks

Just to add to this, if we start finding pumps that aren't labeled or claimed, we may start deleting them. I know it might not seem like a hassle, but the server dealing with the flowing liquid of a chunkloaded 100x100 lava crater really bogs it down, especially when there are 10 of them going at any given time. Plus, you're getting free regenerating lava out of it, and let's face it - that's not such a bad thing.

I also want to mention that while I see that 1.1.6 is out, I'm not going to rush into updating yet. Browsing the test thread, it looks like there are a few crash bugs that might be a problem for people, and I'd rather wait for them to be fixed since there aren't any major updates as far as I can tell. If a majority of players DO want to move to the latest build though, I'd be happy to reconsider it.

  9. Just a slight question on the economy of the server, since I keep forget to ask;

Is the currency going to be an actual Item (like industrial diamonds in the original server), or is it going to be a currency system were you gain a virtual form of money, that you can checkup on via chat commands (like /money)?

It'll be a currency system, in fact it's the exact same one (Essentials Economy) that we had on the old Tekkit server.

  10. Just as a heads up, we're in the process of building our first arena on the server for the most recently added plugi, MobArena! I'll be setting it up to give out cash prizes so that new players can get easy starting money, and I may be adding some rare prizes for players who manage to get far enough into the waves!

Also, based on feedback I got from people, I'm gonna be looking in to setting up another type of minigame-style activity on the server. I won't say much, but get your life jackets and eyepatches out from storage...

  11. As you guys can tell from the fact that this thread is now in the Tekkit server section, we've officially transitioned over to Tekkit! I'll leave the old Big Dig server running for a little while longer, but the new IP for the Tekkit server is located in the main post. Everything should be set up properly as far as plugins/ permissions/ configs/ etc. goes, but please let me or one of the mods/admins know if we missed something.

Here's to the start of another new adventure!

  12. So, is the server down?

I brought it down for a little while I was working on some stuff for the Tekkit Server.

Since I haven't made an official announcement as of yet, I'll tell everyone now that we're going to be switching over to the new Tekkit within a day or so. While I do enjoy the mods in Big Dig (and I'm sure the rest of you do as well), it's just becoming unreasonable to keep dealing with the massive issues we've been having. The new version of Tekkit has most of the same mods and seems to be much more stable (and popular) at the moment, so it seems like an ideal solution. If, by chance, they do decide to update Big Dig soon and get the issues in it fixed, we can always switch back since I always keep the old server files.

I've already finished setting up all of the plugins and permissions for the new server, and right now the mods, admins, and I are building a new spawn and making everything pretty. Milworkz and Garrett are both busy though, so if there are any players that would like to help us with building and making everything pretty, send me a PM or reply and I'll get you whitelisted so that you can give us a hand.

For anyone that applied over the last few days, this is the reason that I haven't responded to your applications. If you would still like to play on the new server, either leave a new application or send me a PM.
