The next morning I got this: I run 2 MC servers so I always close it after the download is done, but I slipped this time... It's funny because I got a letter last month saying they increased my data cap from 250 gigs to 330 gigs. Before that, I didn't even know I had a data cap. Before Minecraft server hosting I did have µTorrent open 24/7 seeding and I NEVER ONCE saw this message. I would download gigatons of shit I don't need (and I still haven't bothered to unzip a lot of it) and I was NEVER informed of anything like this. Ever. Now I leave it on for one night and I suddenly hit 90% of my cap? What the hell? I've been running a public MC server for over a year so that's not the problem either. This is the FIRST time I see this crap. Anyways, my question is: when does Comcast ship out the bill, and how painful should I expect my death to be once my father sees it? I've never once abided by my data cap with them, and if they're going to start actually billing for it I'm going to have to switch providers sooner than i thought. Turns out I've been exceeding my cap for the past 3 months but those were my courtesy months so they didn't charge anything... Funny how I've had this service for over 6 months. Looks like they reset everything when I upgraded to the 50Gbps plan. 343GB on May 608GB on June 503GB on July So I would've paid $160 had it not been courtesy. What kills my bandwidth is the fact that my roommate and i both play online games, and use Digital Distribution solutions to buy our games. Don't worry, I did the same error with Merchant, though it wasn't in an as embarrassing context. Anyway, I don't see how I could survive with data caps. I mean, I see something I want, I download it. I'm very bad at keeping track on things like the quantity of data I uploaded/downloaded. I got a thing similar to electro's, but no fiber for me, sadly. At least I haven't got caps. The internet isn't very eco friendly, isn't it? Take anything that streams static content like Youtube or Netflix. They should download the videos to your computer and just playback the cached version if available, and delete from cache after a few months. Sure I could get it from Piratebay but then I can't use my little Sony thingy to watch it on my living room on our huge TV. They gotta make internet services more compact, IMO. I think that will begin to change as things like netflix get more and more popular, and people start wanting to stream or download things in 1080p. in any case, I'd start watching what I was downloading were I you. it's pretty easy to avoid that cap. even though I get pretty much all my games through steam or other online distribution type things and torrent the occasional HD video along with a lot of youtube vids, I manage to not hit the cap basically ever. that includes things like downloading guildwars 2 (a lot of gigs). basically, don't download things unless you're going to use them. downloading stuff "just because" is kinda pointless to begin with, anyway. it's even worse when you've got a bandwidth cap.
