kysoto! Your workaround worked. The part I was doing wrong last night was in not realizing that modpack.yml is reloaded every time the launcher starts, it has to be edited after starting the launcher but before hitting login. Thank you!

Thank you for looking. Today has been a very bad day, everyone in my house has stomach flu, so I haven't gotten to analyze anything, and I've been more than a little bit snippy (not an excuse, just a reason). I don't have time to see why the instructions you gave aren't working for me (I did try it quickly, same error), but maybe tomorrow, if I'm not heaving my guts up, I can give it a try. Thanks again.
