crash due to ball and chain goblin.

I just got smacked with this glitch myself. I got past it by switching my game mode to Peaceful before reloading. The goblin will be gone when you reload, so it will not cause the crash. Get as far as you can from that location before swapping back, and avoid those structures until that mob is updated.
