If you don't mind random lag spikes you can change your settings to autosave every 2 seconds, but i recommend using the 20 seconds option.

I have this problem too. If it says that techniclauncher.jar is running, go to AppData/Roaming/.techniclauncher/techniclauncher and it should launch it.
