I had this same problem, although the server runs on java 1.7 for mac, the client actually needs 1.6 to run. go into your applications/utilities/java preferences, and switch it back to 1.6, it should still be there. Also, if you are running a server on the same computer as you play on (as am I) you can load the server while running 1.7, then once it is up, switch into 1.6, and load your client. Supposedly there is a way to set what programs use what version of java, but as of yet I don't know how.
