Additionally, what worked for me is what we worked out here: http://questions.technicpack.net/3737/looks-like-update-moution-breaking-tekkit-help-unanswered Rather than changing the JAVA_HOME value, we instead modify the path to look in the 1.6 jdk folder before the default 1.7 jdk. For myself, rather than placing it into the .bash_profile or .profile, I placed the PATH update in the same shell script that launches the technic launcher jar, so that I can not don't have to worry about 1.6 getting in the way of my working environment.
