Tekkit contantly running out of memory

Question

Posted

Launcher Version: none

Operating System: Windows 7 SP1

Java Version: Java 7 64 Bit

Antivirus Program: When I am playing Tekkit, every single time after a short while the whole game lags like crazy, up until the point where the whole thing freezes and runs out of memory.

Secondary to this problem, the provided exe launcher doesn't actually launch anything, double clicking it freezes it at checking for updates and disappears. So I have to open up the jar by going to %appdata%/.techniclauncher and double clicking the jar file. Which at that point actually launches the game, but seems like an improper workaround.

Secondly, I notice that the launch options have the game capped at 1536 MB of RAM memory. And in case of severe memory leaks, like I am experiencing, that 1.5 GB of RAM fills up and crashes immediately, this is particularly annoying because I can allocate more memory, but the program caps itself. I have 16 GB of RAM available.

The error logs aren't particularly useful as neither problem is actually logged by the looks of it. I've re-installed and redownloaded everything several times. And I am running only a singular Java version, I don't think the problem truly lies with me.

Post the launcher log anyway (pastebin or code tags). You never know what we might get out of it. I assume you have 64-bit Windows 7? I have no trouble allocating 4GB of memory in the Options screen on the launcher...do you perhaps have an old launcher version? Hint: a launcher log would tell us all of this.

Here's all the logs I have split by a large "----" between them

Right now I have resorted to ye olde double click and it has remained stable so far. But the actual exe launcher won't work and allocating more memory is still not possible.

Perhaps it's something else.

Try going into the launcher config file (I forget the name) and manually setting the memory allocation to, say, 4096, then restarting the launcher and not clicking options.

I'm going to cross my fingers and hope this keeps working, I set it to 8192 just to be safe. And I am running fine so far.

Now just the launcher issues.

go open My documents, and in the address bar type %appdata%

then go to the .technic folder (including the period, should be at the top of the list)

inside you can find the config file (Launcherproperties), open with notepad

I have the exact same problems as tich except I only have 4 gigs. I went to try and change the memory manually but every time I load up the game it changes it back to 1536 MB. Any suggestions?

You have 32-bit Java. Switch out for 64-bit, assuming you have a 64-bit OS, and you should be able to allocate more, as well as getting better performance. Be careful about allocating more than half your available RAM, though.
