Launcher Version: 1.0.1.3

Operating System: Windows 7 ASUS Laptop

Java Version: Version 7 Update 5

Antivirus Program: I go on the homepage, click 'Launcher EXE (1.0.1.3)' It then proceeds to ask me if I want to run or download, and I choose run. It then opens a window saying 'Checking Launcher Version' with a progress bar beneath it. Then a new window opens after the progress bar loads for about 3 seconds and the new window says 'Can't find java directory' This problem is only on my father's laptop, because I have downloaded it onto my own laptop which is the exact same model and windows version. The reason I'm downloading on my father's is because my computer is painstakingly slow and laggy. On my computer it has never shown the 'Checking Launcher Version' window or the other one, and the only problem is I can barely move my charector it's so slow and laggy. What do I do?

Very well:

1) Find the directory that contains the java executable. This will typically be c:\Program Files\java\jre7\bin, but the exact folder may vary.

2) Open Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings

3) Go to the Advanced Tab and click Environment Variables... at the bottom.

4) Find the Path variable, select it, and click Edit...

5) Add to the end of the Variable Value a semicolon, followed by the complete path, like inside these quotes: ";c:\Program Files\java\jre7\bin"

6) Use the OK buttons to back all the way out of the Advanced System Settings dialog.

Umm, I accidentally didn't just add that ";c:\Program Files\java\jre7\bin" at the end of the Variable Value, I replaced the hole thing with ";c:\Program Files\java\jre7\bin". Is that really bad? Yes, I know I'm stupid, I didn't read you post carefully enough. Now I just wonder, have I damaged my system in some way? It seems to be running fine...

Nope, you just removed the windows path search items. It'll actually improve system performance in some cases, while preventing you from running some things in others. For reference, mine looks like this (some items redacted):

"C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Common;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\;C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin"

Windows uses this path to search for, or run, commonly used items (video drivers, QuickTime, system files, etc.) without needing a path for them. You might want to add the %SystemRoot% and %SystemRoot%\system32 ones back in, for your convenience.

I don't understand, you'll need to be more specific please. I don't know how I would find a directory.

Not sure if you're trolling or not, but that's about as specific as it gets.

I am not trolling. Do you know how I would find a directory?

I gave you a probable path. If you can't use that to find the directory...you need computer training.

I didn't understand what you meant when you said: Find the directory that contains the java executable. This will typically be c:\Program Files\java\jre7\bin, but the exact folder may vary.

I was saying that the path I gave you is usually the right path, but if you're using the 32-bit version of Java for whatever reason, it might be Program Files (x86), for example. Just check to make sure the path I gave was right, and then use it.

So I was having this same problem and i followed the instructions you wrote to change the directory and now im getting a new error "Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue, the aplication will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately." I clicked continue and the Checking Launcher Version window stays open and doesnt show any progress. Tried finding a topic on this but this is the closest i could find.

Whaa...where did you come from? Post your own bug report. Your situation is likely not to be the same.
