Automatic elevator rail problem

Hi there, im trying to set up an automatic elevator rail that engages the redstone signal when a cart is coming along the line to ascend, and disengages when the cart reaches the top, allowing for carts to descend. I tried watching a youtube video, but i cannot get it to work as the video showed, that had a RS latch between two receivers. Pictures posted.

I am new to tekkit, running a local server over hamachi for myself and a few friends.
