Memory leak (need help with .Bat file)

Question

Posted

Launcher Version: 1.0.1.3

Operating System: GeForce GTX 550Ti, 3g Ram, an AMD athalon processor im pretty sure (is dual core), Windows xp 32 bit

Java Version: 1.7.5 or whatever the latest one is (made sure yesterday)

Antivirus Program: *Mod Removed*

Description of Problem:

first off hope i picked the right Sub-forum, wasnt sure where to post and im still iffy on whether or not i made the right choice.

ok my problem, i honestly know next to nothing about .Bat files and the like my knowledge levels of computers is everything below the line of using the command prompt (or messing with the Bios), with some occasional usage of command prompts etc. (can figure it out i just dont have a working knowledge.

now my actual problem hehe. first off i found out how to increase the Ram allocation for regular minecraft. my problem is the commands in the .Bat file that worked for that wont work for technic (even when i fudge around with it a bit which honestly is trial and error and im more likely to crash my computer somehow than get it right).

this is what i tried in the Bat File. "C:\Documents and Settings\(nope)\Application Data\.techniclauncher\technic-launcher.Exe" -Xmx2048M -Xms1024M -cp

i also tried .Jar (the . exe etc doesnt show up for the name on my comp.)

Nah, we'll leave it up, mostly to let others know that the RAM allocation for the launcher .jar probably doesn't translate to the RAM allocation for a particular mod pack, since that's actually Minecraft you're running. This is also completely different from the RAM allocation for a Tekkit server, if you happen to be running one.

ah... lol, so when i run the launcher the options thing for Ram allocation, is it the ram the game (whatever mod im using) will be using? cuz when i played basic minecraft (without the launcher) it always tried to go over 1g ram and ate up over half my cpu once it got there. i cut down the render distance to normal and dialed back the particles to decreased. and i havent had that problem again but it still hovers rather high. (the problem being minecraft lagging like heck).

Yup. Since you have a 32-bit OS, Java will never use more than 1.5GB, so if you go over 1GB or so allocated, the garbage disposal process gets...messy.

hehe, it wasnt going over 1.5 it stopped at just under 1 g and would start getting laggy (im pretty sure it was trying to go over 1k) and the limit on Ram was causing it. an upgrade will be nice when i can afford it. any idea how good windows 7 is? (gonna miss the way xp works tho have used to for so much of my life its almost like other OS dont exist lol.
