Friend on a tekkit server had the rendering band (the one that makes you fly) and quantum armor on. he flew over lava which sucked him in but didn't kill him due to his armor. upon exit of the lava his band disappeared yet he was still able to fly and lava no longer sucked him in. even have restarting the server and client he was still able to fly with a blank inventory
