Please Help Going Nuts moddednetwork 3.0 can't get 1-9 to work for middle 9 boxes to equip char. with wanted item :(

Can someone Please Please Please help me? I'm on moddednetwork 3.0 and buttons 1-9 are not working.. It's my son's b-day today I tried to get it going for him to play,...

But  buttons 1-9 which normally let you  equip yourself with the item you want to use are not working.. Well on the bottom of the screen there are 3 boxes to the left , than in the middle there are 9 boxes, than to the right 3 more boxes.. 1 2 3 is working for the first 3 boxes but can't figure out how to get an item there so it can be used..  The items show up in the middle 9 boxes but can't figure out 4 nothing how to make it so 1-9 works for the middle 9 boxes & equip the char. with the wanted item.. I've looked in controls a million times trying a bunch of stuff  to figure out how to assign 1-9 to those middle 9 boxes w No Luck at All.. Or at least find out which buttons do equip your char. w/ wanted item.. My son is So Disappointed  & I'm going nuts trying to figure it out, & thought here might be a Good place to ask I looked at lots Youtube videos, googled, switch buttons, ect..but nothing, Please Please can someone Please help??
