Mac Tekkit Server

I'm using a MacBook Pro and I wanted to start a Tekkit server for myself and a few friends. I downloaded the Tekkit Launcher and tried to run a server through that, but I'm obviously missing something because none of the ores were showing up or so it seemed. So I downloaded the Tekkit Server 3.1.1 and it won't work because I'm on a Mac. Also I'm having troubles getting texture packs to work. In the original Minecraft Launcher I have a texture pack, but it won't let me select it. It just kinda temporarily freezes the screen (the mouse still works), whenever I click on it. I have it in a zip folder too. I can't get it to show up in the Tekkit launcher either. Is there something I'm missing?
