Checking launcher version

Launcher Version: I downloaded it today, so it should be the latest.

Operating System: Windows 7

Java Version: Java 7 (? I don't really do this kind of stuff.)

Antivirus Program:

Description of Problem:

I click the button to launch the launcher (launcherception!) and get the screen "Checking launcher version" for about 1 second. I know other people have had this problem and any advice I have been able to find has not worked. The almighty google has failed me.

Suggestions please?

Do you have an antivirus? What bit version of Win7 are you using? AV software can block the launcher, and 32-bit OS/Java versions don't like the .exe version. Try the .jar instead.
