Launcher won't start, I get a banner freeze

Question

Posted

Launcher Version: Not sure, but I downloaded it last Sunday (29th July)

Operating System: Windows 7

Java Version: 1.7.0_05-b06

Antivirus Program: Zone alarm (not really an antivirus program)

Description of Problem:

I downloaded the Technic Launcher from the tekkit page (http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/) and then ran the .exe, and it started ok with a small loading thing then it went to the "Technic Launcher" banner and then nothing happened. after five minutes still nothing happened and the banner was always ontop of all other windows I had open. I closed the banner by stopping the Java process in task manager eventually.

Yeah, either kill your firewall (that's what ZoneAlarm is, and probably what's stopping you), disable it or add an exception for the launcher. If that doesn't work by itself, do that and run the .jar version of the launcher.

When I tried to open the .jar, windows couldn't find a program, so I went into java, then bin then selected java.exe to run it with and then, when I do run it, I get a black window that opens some text then immediately closes.

ok, I uninstalled Java 7, and got Java 6. Then when I ran it all went well, so yeah. Thanks anyway, - Charles

[Edit] It also fixed my minecraft not connecting to minecraft.net so there was something wrong with Java 7 that caused the problem.
