Graphics driver crash near advanced machines

Question

POSSIBLY FIXED (read my 2nd reply)

Title:Graphics driver crash near advanced machines

Version: 3.1.1

OS: Windows 7 64bit

Java Version: 7

Description of Problem:

Since I started playing this is happened in both 3.0.3 and 3.1.2, whenever I load a chunk with an advanced machine (rotary macerator, induction furnace, etc) my graphics driver will crash and give the "recovered" message and then tekkit turns into a white/black screen.

From my testing and experience it definately has to be something in advanced machines addon for IC2, and like I said if I walk past the line where the chunk is loaded I'll crash, and if I'm within the radius where the chunk is I can sometimes manage to get away quick enough before it loads and stay out of range, but right before I'm writing this the server crashed while I was right next to a rotary macerator and I've tried a few times to get back on but I crash the second I load in..

There also a strange behavior where it sometimes doesn't crash but from my experience I would like to assume it depends on if the machines are actually running or not, when the server d/c it was running so I crash, but before I've been able to go back to chunks I previously crashed at and nothing happened (assuming the machines were not running then)

I'm currently using two Radeon HD 6850's in crossfire but obviously I don't utilize crossfire while playing this. My graphics drivers are also catalyst 12.3 but right now I'm downloading the latest drivers (12.6) so if that fixes it I'll edit this.

Anyways I get no error message, no error log, and it's not a launcher issue so I'm not sure what else I should provide. I've seen similar posts of people having this issue but none of them ever have any replies or solutions..

Please help!

Thanks

Just to update, the graphics driver update didn't do anything it still happens, I've also tried both java 6 and 7 and it happens with both.

I've even installed ubuntu just to see if it happens there and it works fine on ubuntu (even though it was a little difficult to get working I had to update lwjgl).

So I'm really not sure why the crash is so specific to me and why other people don't have it because I'm sure I'm not the only ATI/AMD user, java is irrelevant, graphics driver is irrelevant (unless I'm the only one with up to date gfx driver..)

Please if anyone can help, I'll be playing in ubuntu for now but I would really like to get this working in win7.

Update #2 (POSSIBLY FIXED!!),

I just tried playing with crossfire turned off since it's the only difference I could come up with between win7 and ubuntu and it seems to work fine, no crashing with crossfire off. So for anyone else having this issue, I know there is a few of you having it, just turn off crossfire and hope it works.

Hello Katrijn. I am experiencing the same problem you were. I'm not technical expert, wish I was. I wish I knew how computers work. I suppose I could learn but...Anyway I don't know what you mean by "crossfire". Are you referring to the AMD drivers? Do I have to install something? Is it hardware or software? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

Katrijn hasn't logged onto the forums since the end of August and only posted about this problem, so I don't think that you will be able to get a hold of them.

CrossFire is an AMD technology for linking several video cards together.

I have never used CrossFire and it has been several years since I had an ATI video card but I think that Catalyst Control Center (CCC) should have an option for turning CrossFire off.

This setting will probably have no effect unless your have two or more video cards in your computer but it shouldn't hurt to try anyway.
