Description of Problem:

(I posted this in another thread in response to someone who was seemingly having the same problem (but didn't explain it very well at all), but that thread has since died a death, so I figured I'd start my own. Apologies if I'm doing a bad, =X)

My laptop is a piece of shit. Without Optifine I can't Minecraft, and even with it my framerate is, like, 25-30 on average. Works for me though. I deal.

I was playing Technic 6.0.7 just fine for ages, then when 7.2.6 came out I jumped right on that. However, I think maybe the updates to base Minecraft and added stuff (that I don't want to turn off because it's cool added stuff) in Technic caused my average framerate to be about 15-20 or so, which is on the wrong side of intolerable. So I decided to simply stick with 6.0.7 for the time being, as it's still plenty awesome. Sadly, if I try to install it I get 'Update Failed!' once the download of minecraft.jar gets to 99-100%. I've even tried a completely fresh start with both Minecraft and the Technic Launcher, doing everything exactly by the book. No dice.

I suspect it's something to do with the launcher only being able to downgrade Minecraft to 1.1 from 1.2.5 for Technic 6.0.7, which it can't do when the current version of Minecraft is now 1.3.1. I don't know how it all works though. Tis just a suspicion, =X

I even tried installing Technic 7.2.6 to downgrade Minecraft from 1.3.1 to 1.2.5, then taking the downgraded minecraft.jar from .techniclauncher/technicssp/bin, doing a fresh start of the Technic Launcher, then placing said JAR into the currently empty .techniclauncher/technicssp/bin in the hopes that the launcher would find that and be able to downgrade it further to 1.1. Harebrained scheme, and it didn't work, D:

Is there a way to resolve this issue or am I doomed to wait until I can afford a computer that isn't made of cheese and ass and can handle Technic 7.2.6?

You may be doomed. Have you tried playing with graphical settings and/or versions of OptiFine (the default included one isn't always the best for your system) to maximize framerate? Are you absolutely certain you're using 64-bit Java? Since you have Windows 7, is it possible for you to pull a backup of your .techniclauncher folder from before the update?

Due to how awful my laptop is, I always play with graphical settings set to their bare minimum. The only thing I have turned up is smooth lighting, and that's only because the effect it has on my framerate is negligible.

How would I go about switching out OptiFine for one of the other versions of it? I can't find anything in the technicssp folder to tinker with, =X

Are you absolutely certain you're using 64-bit Java?

110% positive sir. I read somewhere that setting the priority of java.exe in the task manager to High helps. I tried it and there was the slightest of improvements in my framerate (like, 2-3 or so), but I was still suffering fairly frequent spikes, and whether the improvement was actually down to that I have no idea.

Since you have Windows 7, is it possible for you to pull a backup of your .techniclauncher folder from before the update?

I haven't manually done anything to back anything up, so unless Windows 7 has done something automatically that I'm unaware of, it is not.

OptiFine Standard can be dropped into the technicssp\bin\modpack.jar - that may help a bit, as I think the pack comes with Smooth, which doesn't always work well with every system.

Do you have only integrated graphics, or is there actually a dedicated card in the laptop?

Just to confirm I did it right - I dropped the contents of OptiFine_1.2.5_HD_C6.rar into modpack.jar. I've heard mention of having to delete the META-INF folder, but I don't have one in modpack.jar, only minecraft.jar. Am I deleting that or is there no need?

I tried playing again anyway, and my framerate was hovering in the 20s, but dropped to around 13-15 when I started punching some sand. When I click the Mods button on the main menu it lists OptiFine 1.2.5_HD_C6 (Standard) rather than OptiFine 1.2.5_HD_S_C6 (Smooth), so I guess I did it right, =S

And it's integrated graphics. Specifically Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family. I'm sure I've just made PC gamers everywhere throw up a little bit, =P

Yeah, the only thing you can hope to do is to reduce your graphics settings to Fast on everything (including Advanced OpenGL, just to try), and turn your render distance down to Normal or (possibly much) less. Yes, your laptop sucks, but you knew that already.
