Not enough memory crash

Question

Title: Not enough memory crash

Version: 3.1.2

OS: Windows 7

Java Version: version 7 update 5

Description of Problem:

As i am playing tekkit it says minecraft has run out of memory.which makes no sense because this is a completely new computer with 4 gigs or ram. when i quit and restart it it will work fine until 10 minutes later and it happens again.

Error Messages:

minecraft has run out of memory this could be caused by a bug in the game or by the java virtual machine not being allocated enough memory. if you are playing in a web browser try downloading the game and playing it offline. to prevent level corruption the current game has quit. weve tried to free up enough memory to let you go back to the main menu and back to playing. but this may not have worked please restart the game if you see this message again.

Do you have a 64-bit OS, and are you running 64-bit Java to match if you do? How much RAM are you allocating? Hint: 1GB is usually sufficient.
