Can't remove or place blocks

Hello,

I am running Tekkit 3.1.2 and when I, or a friend joins the server, we can't remove or place blocks. For instance, if I try to dig dirt with the bare hand, the dirt will instantly replace itself. Of course I also don't obtain dirt at this point.

This feels like a pretty 'simple' thing to fix, but looking around on this forums or using Google didn't gave me an answer.

Some general other information:

permissions.yml: the file is empty (I think that is OK?)

My Java version:

java version "1.7.0_05"

Java SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_05-b06)

Java HotSpot 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.1-b03, mixed mode)

OS: Windows 7, 64 bit, 16 GB memory

Are you right next to the spawn-in point? Only OPs and people with permissions can break blocks there.

I already ended up digging through the permissionsEx system of bukkit. Thanks a lot!

Haha ok! I am playing Minecraft almost as long as it's there, but never ran a MC server. So, I didn't know. I understand it is common though if you did this before. But I can also think of users (like me) trying to set up a Tekkit server as a first Minecraft server.

S'okay, I think it was Mojang's (poor) idea of spawn protection to keep griefing down. The Bukkit team and modders have provided plugins with a hundred times the level of protection, though.
