Unable to join any tekkit server anywhere period

Antivirus Program: none, removed in order to see if it was messing with Tekkit

Description of Problem:

any time I join my or any other server using a clean or modded version of tekkit downloaded by the technic launcher I get "END OF STREAM"

Had the same problem and conditions; turned out to be a corrupted player file ({world}/players/{login}.dat). Remove, respawn, all good.
