Launcher Version: How do I find this out?

Operating System: Windows XP

Java Version: 6u31/7u5

Antivirus Program: Sophos

Description of Problem:

Heh, Thought I'd run the technic pack after a while, yay, it's loading

5 mins later:

10: mins later: Shit, son

30 mins later: lets go fix this shite

2 hours later: lets write this bug report...

Things I have tried: Downgrading/upgrading java

Rebooting

Using the .jar

Disabling my anti-virus

Screaming at it to work

Waiting...

i have this issue too, the splash screen is the loading banner right? where it says "Technic Launcher" in big letters. I have only one version of java and just to be sure i downloaded the one technic suggests to download (jre 7u6 x64), it has worked in the past and this problem started today as a result of me trying to stop the "could not connect to minecraft.net" bug and that started because i tried to stop my server crashing! So many bugs, so little patience :S thanks in advance for the help.

i only have the one java and i get this error. help!

also i have tried the .jar and running as administrator. Also tried

deleting .techniclauncher in %appdata%, rebooting and all the stuff bip5 did plus a second round of screaming at it.

They are just ignoring the people with this problem after they give their useless firewall/antivirus garbage.

They clearly have no idea what they are doing and don't have the slightest clue on how to fix it. Honestly you're just gonna have to give up, or reinstall windows if you are extremely hellbent on playing this.

If you keep pushing the problem that it won't run you'll just end up being insulted by the awful moderators here who are apparently extremely sensitive when it comes to people pointing out that they are useless. Over the last two weeks I have literally laughed out loud at some of the replies they give people asking for help. But then I quickly realized it wasn't funny, it was sad that they were actually saying this stuff.

After some investigating, on XP, using Sophos at a friend's house, I've found that that particular antivirus is the problem.

Temporarily disabling it worked though.

Okey-doke. First, we start with firewall/antivirus because, between those and outdated copies of the launcher, they cause at least 75% of the problems people post on.

They clearly have no idea what they are doing and don't have the slightest clue on how to fix it. Honestly you're just gonna have to give up, or reinstall windows if you are extremely hellbent on playing this.

I need you to understand something. The moderators here don't program the launcher, we have no interaction with the programmers other than perhaps a slightly louder voice when it comes to bringing up issues, and we certainly don't need to take crap for trying to be helpful.

Have you ever worked in tech support? More than half the people have no clue where to start with troubleshooting, and you pretty much have to assume all of them are like that unless they demonstrate otherwise. You'll get people asking how to post a launcher log. You'll get people that provide only the very basics of information, which is not enough to make a call on anything, or even provide none at all. So, if you'll get the stick out of your rear end for a bit, figure out how to help them yourself, and then go do it, you'll make this forum a better place for everyone.

Many people that experience more complex problems (unlike this) are more than often using Vista or XP, so their issues take longer. (However a common solution is actually graphics drivers, thankfully).

But, I have posted a solution above. Tried and tested.

Also, you'll find above that the poster did provide misinformation.

We have to assume that people won't have read all the stickies,

so we'll always go with the common solutions first, even if they don't end up working.

I hope you can appreciate that.

I don't really understand why your previous comment quoted me, was it aimed at me, i don't think i can have offended you in any way? I was just keeping the peace in the hope of finding a solution faster. Also i'm sorry, your solution did not work for me. I have even changed antivirus and tried disabling that too. I have the java version this website reccommends too, if that is anything to do with it.

You mentioned that you were trying to fix the 'could not connect to minecraft.net bug'.

Can you elaborate as to what you did to fix that?

tried again,

raged a bit,

tried again,

restarted my router,

tried again,

then deleted .techniclauncher,

now this happened.

also, if this helps, the java version technic links to is not the version oracle recommends. i just downgraded java to java 7u5 now but there is no change.

I'm afraid you need the utter latest one they put out, as modders will use that, too.

Also, deleting everything and raging doesn't solve that bug.

Waiting for minecraft.net to take all the sharp objects out of its arse and work is the solution.

For the splash screen, downloading a new launcher should work for you in Windows 7.
