Downloading Fails

Description of Problem:

Since I have been unable to get the launcher to load on my windows 7 laptop I have tried it on my windows vista ultimate desktop and it works. The launcher loads up but every time I choose a mod to use it keeps saying download has failed. I have switched from running AVG to using Avast and that hasn't fixed the issue. I have re-downloaded the launcher several times and that hasn't fixed it. I am now starting to get very frustrated by this as all I want to do is play tekkit QQ.

Help with this would be muchly appreciated.
