Sorting items to teleport pipes

Well I made this huge quarry and I am going to have a network of sorting machines that will teleport one item into a chest. Each minable item will go into a chest made for only that item. Well I ran into an issue. Will my sorter take items from a chest by a pneumatic tube or does it need to be right up against the chest? Also,the item transport pipes don't seem to be connecting to the pneumatic tubes. Am I doing something wrong?

I solved the chest issue by putting filters infront of the chests. Now how do I hook up the teleport pipes to the pneumatic tubes?

Connect the pneumatic tubes to chests and pump out the items into the teleport pipes
