I was just wondering. Is there any possible way to dedicate more RAM to Minecraft, whilst using the new launcher?

If you click on options, on the launcher login screen, you can set how much you want from the drop down menu.

What do all of the options on the login screen do? Specifically?

I understand the build choice options, timeout, and RAM, but what cache is cleared, and where/how many/when will the backups go?
