Cant use pumps?

Title: Cant use pumps?

Version: 3.1.2

OS: Ubuntu server 12.04

Java Version: 1.7.0_09

Description of Problem:

i recently got tekkit working on my server and i was just about to try making a pump to collect some oil but when i tried to connect a steam engine to it i suddenly crashed, now when ever i try to connect to my server it instantly crashes again, this is the only thing it says is the problem, any idea on what could be causing this?

I dont know what causes this all i know is that for me on my servers no engines work without crashing the server and i have to move the world to single player to delete the engine.
