minecraft out of memory

Description of Problem:

I have no problem starting Tekkit up but when i start playing, in about 10 minutes a screen comes up and says Minecraft ran out of memory and quits the game. How do i fix this problem?

Can you tell me how much RAM you have, how much you allocated to technic and if you use a texture pack, which one?

i have 8GB of RAM; I allocated 1GB; I use Sphax PureBDCraft

Same problem here but i get the "minecraft out of memory" screen in seconds!! Like 30 seconds after it loads my world. I have 4 GB RAM (Old computer) allocated 1GB and I use the default texture pack. Any idea how to fix this? (Aside from getting a new computer)

install newest 64 bit java.
