failed to get xbox authentication

i migrated my mojang account to microsoft a long time ago and have played with technic launcher multiple times since then and never had this problem until today. 

i click on add microsoft account and it directs me to login on my browser.

then i confirm that i'm trying to login with technic launcher. 

then i get this message: Received verification code. You may now close this window.

when i go back to the launcher to login it says failed to authenticate with xbox for minecraft

i even logged into the xbox microsoft site even though i don't even have an xbox. i enabled multiplayer.

i tried deleting the oauth file.

i updated my java. 

nothing seems to work.

i'm on a MAC by the way.
