First time user, Launcher unresponsive

Description of Problem:

Hoping to get a little experience in Tekkit before a group of friends can pool for a server. After downloading and running, I get the launcher with only the right side shown. When I try to log in with my Minecraft information, the actual login button doesn't do anything. It looks like this
