Tekkit classic: not changing language

Hi.

i recently made a server, and the only plugins i have installed are essentials, essentialschat and essentialsspawn.

now, when i start my server (take note: my server is placed in holland) the server language is dutch. when i go to the essentials config, i removed the default language thing and changed it to english. (locale: en-GB) i removed the # already. so what could be wrong?
