Hi Guys,

I'm having some trouble with a server I was setting up with some friends. I followed a YouTube video to port forward Tekkit so that I could do it this way rather than using Hamachi because that usually lags for me and my friends. I'm on Virgin Media in the UK, and have set up the server and the Port Forwarding and it works fine for me, however, nobody can connect to the server.

The Port Forwarding rule is set to my iPv4 IP, and in the server properties file I have set the server IP as my iPv4 as well. I know on most videos on forum post's, people say that you need to make that your public IP address, but whenever I do that it fails to bind to the port because on Virgin Media you can only Port Forward to either your iPv4 or Default Gateway.

Hope anyone can help with this!

You don't need to bind the server to a specific IP-address, you can use "server-ip=0.0.0.0" to bind it to all adapters.

Minecraft uses TCP unlike many other game servers. You forwarded a TCP port?

Last but not least - You have a software firewall on your pc and opened it for incoming connections?

I've now done this, with a blank server ip in the properties file, the server address is still my iPv4 in the multiplayer menu. it tells me the server is online, I can join and play it, I have a strong connection when on there but my friends can't reach it everytiem.

I forwarded the 25565 port to a 25566 port which is TCP and UDP on VirginMedia, when I launch the server, it binds to the port and the server is up and running for me.

I think this might be the issue. Do I need to allow their IP's through my firewall somehow? I just asked my friend to connect as I shut my firewall off completely but it still made no difference. Hope you can help me out! If it's easier, I can do a teamviewer or something, can't find a lot online that helps with this situation other than the stuff like the ip in the server files being changed or being nothing etc.

Hope this helps!
